I'm single, and I've been forced to love to cook because nobody else is going to feed me. I've found cooking discouraging due to tradtional meals most people eat/make; which is why I didn't like it. They're all fattening. Then I discovered there are no real rules to cooking and ventured out on my own to cook what I like how I like it.
My favorite things to cook
Just because people like my cooking doesn't make me an expert. My audience isn't that big. I love to cook anything though but I'm more like a mad scientist in the lab than a chef in the kitchen. I make recipes up all the time; I've had occasional disasters. There are the few times where, I'm scratching my head and wish I wrote more down instead of fooled around with it because it came out so well.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Thanksgiving - I think is the all time favorite. It's where my family get's together at my house and I cook a meal where people fight over the left overs if there are any.
My cooking triumphs
My cooking triumph is my experiment with a Sweet potato pie recipe and New York Cheese cake. Everyone that tried it was begging for the recipe. I didn't have it becuase it was from 2 different places and one was someone's back home recipe. I've tried replicating a recipe online. It makes the pumpkin pie and cheesecake combo taste like saw dust. It's really amazing. I was most pleased with that concoction.
My cooking tragedies
Never mix potatoes and tomato sauce. I don't know what I thinking one day but it came out really weird. I think I was a student at the time and suffering for lack of ingredients. The other tragedy is, I had to stop using oil, because my face doesn't like it. Butter is better even margarine. It wasn't so much a cooking tragedy as a facial one.
