About this Cook
I didn't learn to cook until I was married. I was always calling my mother for instructions. Now after 48 yrs of marriage, I think I have mastered the art.
My favorite things to cook
In the last 10 yrs my favorite things to cook are dishes that require little time to prepare as I am not able to stand for more than a few minutes at a time due to back pain.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mother, maternal grandmother, and mother-in-law were wonderful cooks and I am still using many of their recipes and methods.
My cooking triumphs
I make a to die for fresh spinach pie. I also do a wonderfully tastey and easy lasagna in the microwave using no boil noodles and my own sauce.
My cooking tragedies
A Thanksgiving turkey that took two hours longer than it should have. The rest of the dinner was cold before the turkey was done. I don't trust those pop-up things as they either pop up too soon or never pop up at all. Even those new-fangled instant thermometers can't be trusted. I now make all the other side dishes ahead of time and warm them in the micro when the turkey is done.

Roast Pork with Maple and Mustard Glaze
The amount of sauce was way too much for a 2 1/2 # roast. To make it stick to the roast I had to reduce it slightly on top of the stove, but that made it stick to the roasting pan making a mess. The flavor of the sauce does not penetrate the meat. If I made it again, I would either do it in a slow cooker, or just reduce the sauce and serve it over the sliced meat at the table. It also took at least an hour and a half to get the meat to 160 degrees.

Sweet Potato Bake
My family loves this. The only change I made was to not put any sugar in the sweet potatoes. We loved the topping, but if by chance you have leftovers, don't reheat it in the microwave. The topping gets soggy.
