About this Cook
I am a 37 year old mother of 2 teenagers living in a midwestern town in Indiana. I grew up on anything that you could throw into a "fryin" pan - fried chicken, fried potatoes, basically anything cooked in Crisco. I am married to a meat and potato kind of guy, but I try to cook a little more healthy than my family from down south. I, personally have dramatically reduced breads, pastas and the 44 oz. daily softdrink from our local gas station. I have introduced my husband to many new food avenues during our 5 year marriage. He had never tried sour cream until he met me...? He says that my cooking is the best. I am not going to argue!
My favorite things to cook
I love to make salads of any kind, or just throw cucumber, tomato, onions, feta cheese in with some balsamic vinegarette dressing. I love beans of any kind. I would prefer to eat them as a main course rather than meat. They are very good for you! My potato soup is hands down - wonderful. I WILL post.
My favorite family cooking traditions
baked beans (mom) cornbread stuffing (mom) - this is the best stuffing I have ever eaten. Cornbread and bisquits are the bread. It is kind of crumbly with chicken broth, onions & sage. I will get the recipe from my Mother and post it. I cannot go without it on Thanksgiving. My Mama's dumplings that have been passed down to my aunt Thelm. I have not tried to cook them...yet
My cooking triumphs
Million Dollar Cake from a cookbook that my husband's Grandmother Agnes gave me (from the 70's) Anything that I can make with meat cooked in a crockpot! It's so easy and turns out tender and juicy without all of the oil and grease added
My cooking tragedies
Shepherd's Pie (I have tried this twice...icky) I cannot fry anything at all. Go figure...

Banana Bread VIII
This is my favorite recipe on this site. I do not cook with eggs (if possible)and am elated with the results! I used plain yogurt and applesauce instead of the shortening. I also have added pineapple and apples to the bread. Both came out absolutely scrumptious. I also sprinkled a layer of brown sugar over mini loaves. I added crushed walnuts on a few of them. My husband likes cream cheese icing on his. Divine!
