Award Winning Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 9, 2009
These are very good and chewy. My only reason for not giving it a 5 star is that the cookies have a low key floury taste to them. I think I agree with a few other reviewers... they need some extra brown sugar to give them the sweeter taste. They are good but for some reason, after I took mine out of the oven they flattened... I wonder why... any suggestions??? I'd love to figure out what I'm doing wrong here. Thanks for a great recipe, they are def. worth making again, but be ware, you'll get a lot!!!

Chocolate Cheese Ball

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2009
This was such a hit. I served with teddy grahams (chocolate chip, chocolate, and honey) Everyone loved it and thought it was a unique idea. I served it at a spa party, it was clean and simple to eat during that! For an easy way to change it up a little you can add some cocoa(I think I used 2 tablespoons but you can give or take to suite your liking.) Everyone loved both flavors since I did 2 separate.

Chicken Pot Pie IX

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2009
Yes... this was delicious. I didn't change anything other than added the extra celery/carrots/onions that I chopped too much of. (which wasn't that much more) Other than that, I didn't change anything. It was delicious. I don't think the sauce was too thick at all! I like a thicker sauce in most things anyway, but this wasn't too runny or too thick. It was the perfect consistency. My husband loved it and most of my kids loved it too. The picky one just ate the chicken and pastry portion but even so it was a big hit and it was easy to prepare! I will definitely bake this again. A great way to get in some good veggies! Thank you!

Delicious Ham and Potato Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2009
This really is delicious!!! I am a crock pot lover... and so I followed the advice of the another reviewer and used my crock pot to prepare. I put in everything but the butter/flour/milk and let it cook on low all day long. I added a little over an extra 1/3 C. of the chopped ham... an extra 1/3 C. chopped celery to get in those extra veggies for the kids... and I didn't have milk so I used half and half and I actually think that helped to make the soup a bit thicker... the way we like it! When it was time to add the butter/flour/milk I just followed the directions to put that together and added it to the crock pot when it was ready. We ate about 45 minutes later. The kids gobbled it down and even asked for seconds. We liked adding shredded cheddar cheese the the soup when serving. Thank you for sharing this wonderful recipe! Perfect for these cold fall days!

Caramel Popcorn

Reviewed: Oct. 4, 2009
This caramel corn is CLASSIC!!! It is either as good or better than the stuff you get at the market or fair. It is very sweet, but oooh so good! It's definitely better the next day after everything get's a good chance to harden... so the corn isn't as soft and the sugar has hardened. It's delicious... and so easy! Try it for a party and mix with peanuts or m&m's and you won't be sorry!! What a great hit for our family movie night!

Boilermaker Tailgate Chili

Reviewed: Oct. 4, 2009
I loved this chili. I think if you don't like it, it must be that it's not your kind of chili... but in our opinion this is the classic, flavorful chili that chili is supposed to be. I left out the beer and bacon bits... I didn't want to waste a 12 oz bottle of beer for a half cup of it. I didn't want to add the entire bottle either b/c we don't like soupy chili... I'm pregnant so I couldn't finish the rest, hubby was working and you can't save beer... soooo I just left it out. Maybe next time I'll be able to use it. I didn't have bacon bits or I would have included that too. Even with out those things included, this was fantastic! It's thick, not too spicy, tasted great with sour cream and shredded cheddar cheese on top. The kids loved it too... even a 1 year old baby... so that just shows you it's not too hot... but it def. did have a nice kick to it! Thanks for sharing... we'll be using this often! It made plenty for my current family of 5 with 2 large containers leftover for another day!!!

Mom's Zucchini Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 29, 2009
Amazing... I am so surprised that this bread tastes so good. I have never tasted zucchini bread... that I can recall that is. However when I got these two zucchini's given to me, I wasn't sure what I could do with them, but I didn't want them to go to waste so I did a search on this site and found this recipe. I thought I'd try it out and see what happened. I reviewed all the comments and followed the directions exactly. I am so glad I tried this recipe. The bread is absolutely amazing. My girls like it and even though it's not the healthiest... they are still getting some veggies hidden in a bread they think is dessert... which it kind of is, but still! Anyway, the night before I tried this bread I stopped at my mother in laws house and she had just baked some a few days earlier so I tried it. I was pretty bummed that zucchini bread was what I was going to make... much to my surprise... either something went wrong with her recipe, a few days old is too old, or this recipe just blows the other one out of the water! I am so happy I went through with making this bread rather than skipping it b/c I tasted other zucchini bread that just wasn't all that great! Thank you for sharing this!!! Oh, one other thing... I guess I didn't follow the instructions completely. I ran out of vegetable oil. So I used what I had which was 3/4 C. and I used 1/4 C. applesauce to bring it to 1 C. total. That's the only provision I made, but this bread is perfectly moist and delicious

World's Best Lasagna

Reviewed: Sep. 29, 2009
I've never attempted making lasagna because I always thought it would be to complicated and take too long, but I decided to give it a go... mostly because I'm pregnant and I was craving the pasta and cheese combo!!! I don't like rating a recipe with out first trying it as is, and I mostly did, there were just a few exceptions: I used fresh basil and fresh parsley. I did double the red sauce mixture so I could make 2 lasagna's as well. I didn't purchase enough ricotta to double that, but next time I'll be sure to do that as well. I had enough for both lasagna's, but one was just a lot cheesier than the other. The only other alteration I made was adding a dash of nutmeg to the ricotta/egg mixture. I got that idea from a post on this site and it sounded good! This doesn't alter the recipe, but I did just place the noodles in a pan and fill it with hot tap water. I let that water set with the noodles for 20 or so minutes then I would drain that out and repeat a couple times until the noodles were nice and soft. This is so much better for me since I hate to make my kitchen any hotter than I have to while I'm baking. Plus if you're going to do the red sauce as the directions call for (simmering for 1.5 hrs) there's no rush for the noodles. If you are planning on combining the red sauce ingredients and refrigerating overnight to blend the flavors then this may take a little extra time, but I like not having to boil them. Next time I will also (as other reviewers have s

Chicken Cordon Bleu II

Reviewed: Feb. 23, 2009
I followed the recipe exactly and was very happy with the outcome. I always like to try every recipe out exactly so I can rate it based on how it is written. It's funny how some people can change it up and then rate it on that outcome. Anyway... it was good. I think next time I'll roll my chicken the best I can after pounding it to about 1/2" thick. Everyone loved it... it's not easy in my house to find a recipe that every single person loves!! Dinner came and it was quiet!! Thanks for sharing!

Basic Flaky Pie Crust

Reviewed: Feb. 22, 2009
I am giving this a 5 star rating b/c the crust was phenominal... however I was dissapointed that the directions didn't indicate whether this was for a double or single. I only made one and it was not enough for a top and bottom. So now I know for next time. Otherwise, it was so easy to make and most ingredients i usually have on hand... and if I don't have the shortening, I do have butter! Thank you!

Outrageous Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2009
This is an excellent recipe for pb chocolate chip oatmeal cookies!! The first thing my husband said was, "Wow!" They are soft and chewy and have good flavor! He didn't pick up on the peanut butter flavor, but I did! He was pretty hungry and he's a man... so he got the chocolate chip part of it!! Anyway, they are so fast and easy to prepare too... usually making cookies takes forever for me b/c you need the same measurement for most of the ingredients... this one was perfect... I got it all mixed up in about 15 minutes tops! The cookies were all done in about 45 minutes! I will be using this recipe again for sure! Thank you so much for sharing!

Marshmallow Treats

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2008
This is a good basic recipe! I added two spoonfuls of peanut butter and about 1/4 bag of chocolate chips at the end of the melting process for a chocolate/peanut butter type dessert instead! It turned out really good! I also added about 1T. milk after the other extras so it stirred better and made it more creamy! Yum! Thank you for the recipe!

Peanut Butter Balls V

Reviewed: Dec. 3, 2008
I'm giving this a 4 star because it was a great tasting recipe and we love that it uses ground graham crackers instead of rice crispy's, but in the making the balls were hard to get into a ball with out kind of falling a part a little. (the recipe calls to add only 2 of the 2 1/2 cups to the peanut butter mixture, then add the remaining half cup if needed... I only used the 2 cups, and didn't even add the extra half cup and it was still too dry) I almost added a bit more peanut butter to help that out, but I just proceeded based off of the instructions. The outcome was fabulous! I tried the peanut butter balls with rice crispys and my hubby didn't like them... with the graham cracker, you don't get that crunch and they are more creamy... much better! Next time I make this I think I'll add some extra peanut butter and only use the 2 cups graham crackers for sure! Thank you for the good recipe!!!

Butternut Squash Casserole

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2008
Oh my golly!! This was FABULOUS!!! I followed the directions on the butternut squash for cooking it, as well as previous reviewers. I sliced the squash length wise, placed cut side down on a jelly roll pan and baked for approx 45 min. (it does take longer, but it is easier, and I was able to prepare my other dish while this was baking so it worked out nicely) Anyway, after it baked, I flipped the squash over and let it set for a little bit so it would cool a bit, and then I removed the skin. (it was very easy) I kind of thought that the topping would taste fine with out the vanilla waffers so I just used brown sugar and some butter to make a crumble topping. It was so good, and it was the very first thing gone!!! I love when that happens!!! Everyone was raving about the butternut squash casserole and it is now a requirement that I make it every year from here on out! Fine with me, b/c ALL of the ingredients (besides the squash itself) are all ingredients that I have on hand at all times. So it's not only inexpensive, it's actually convenient! My husband was very against me making this b/c he wanted something he knew he'd love... He took one bite, got out of his seat to come and find me to tell me how AWESOME this was and he couldn't believe he liked it so much... so that says a lot right there! He loved it enough to stop eating to come and tell me that! Thank you so much for sharing... this is such a wonderful dish that is a little out of the ordinary!

Chuck's Favorite Mac and Cheese

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2008
This was excellent!! I quadrupled the recipe for a Thanksgiving family get together and it was a huge hit! I followed everything to the T, except, I used 1 cup of heavy whipping cream since I had it on hand (and a few other reviews I read indicated it's not as creamy as they'd like). I separated the mac n' cheese into 2 very large casserole pans. I didn't add the breading/butter mixture to one just to see if I liked it better with or w/ out that. (since other reviews also stated the bread crumbs on top make it even drier. I wasn't sure what else I could add to make it creamier with out changing the taste, but it was delicious. I do think it would have been just as good creamier though! So I wonder if there is something I could add to help that out, but not change the taste very much. Anyway, this was a great side for our HUGE Thanksgiving Day dinner!

Magic Peanut Butter Middles

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2008
I only rated this a 3 star for a few reasons. First, I didn't think the chocolate cookie itself was all that outstanding. I think the devils food chocolate cake mix to make the cookies would taste much better. Also, first, I made 30 balls out of the filling dough. The balls were too big, but I didn't want to waste the filling dough... so of course, there wasn't enough cookie dough to cover all 30 balls. My suggestion is this: Cut the filling portion of this recipe in half... then make 30 balls out of that. Then make the cookie dough portion the same as what is called for. Then each ball should be able to be covered. Possibly double the cookie dough portion. I will have to try that to be sure. I am not sure I'll try this again though... It is more time consuming than most cookie recipes, but the outcome would have been worth it if it would have tasted a little better. I think if I do this again, I will use a devils food chocolate cake mix to make the chocolate cookie part, then just half the middle portion.
