About this Cook
Native New Yorker living in Vegas since June 2007. I work a lot of overtime, so my Crock Pot is my best friend! I'm always looking for something new to try.
My favorite things to cook
Anything in my slow cooker! I am still looking for the perfect chili recipe--I will let you know when I get there. I like to bake cake and cookies, but I am not very good at it yet.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Lots of Italian and Italian-inspired dishes. Huge pots of sauce with meatballs, sausage and shredded pork, served over rotini. My family has always made small pasta shells with a "sauce" of softened butter/cream cheese/parmesan cheese and herbs--still a favorite quick dinner of mine.
My cooking triumphs
I consider it a triumph whenever I manage to cook something without burning it. "Blackened" is my middle name!
My cooking tragedies
I used to make a killer apple desert with a yellow cake crust and yummy crumb/sour cream/pecan topping. It always came out so perfectly. Of course I lost the cookbook that contained the recipe and I don't remember how to make it. My life has not been the same without my delicious apple treat!

To Die For Blueberry Muffins
I am rating this recipe 3-stars for taste alone. I don't know what I did wrong, but my batch was fairly overdone on top @ 20 minutes (and I made sure my oven was baking at the correct temperature). I folowed the directions and filled the muffin cups to the top. The result was sloppy and strange looking, to say the least. I used the suggested lower butter crumb recipe from another reviewer and did not over-top the muffins. Mine still sunk like crazy. They taste fine, but maybe I'm missing something? I thought I followed all directions correctly, and I definitely did not overmix. Hmmm, I may revisit this one again and see if I get different results.

Buffalo Shrimp
Came out pretty good. I used egg and only dipped the shrimp once (impatient). The shrimp were crispy and had a good flavor.

Easy Bacon and Cheese Quiche
I made two quiches, one with bacon (real) and gruyere/swiss cheese and one with frozen spinach and cheddar. I didn't have deep dish pie crusts, so I left out one egg and used less milk (I didn't have any cream). They both turned out lovely, but a little bit bland. I would increase the cheese next time and use some more seasoning. Overall, very easy and good!
