About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
Schwarte's Hash Browns;Turkey (not my man one!);Beef Stroganoff; Fresh bread/buns;Baked Ham & Scalloped potatoes; potato, bacon & cheddar soup;Yorkshire pudding;
My favorite family cooking traditions
Schwarte's for holidays feast mornings; that - in my husband's family -the men do the cleanup after a holiday meal; that everybody in our family knows a new food experiment gets presented preceded by "no guarantees"; that my daughters will experiment with food & present it to me preceded by "don't turn up your nose at it until u have tried it".
My cooking triumphs
Experiments that turn into family favorites! Latest ones - pear marmalade & pear bread. Knowing that I have passed onto my daughters the willingness to experiment in their kitchen & broaden their horizons by utilizing recipes and ingredients from different parts of the world to end up with both of them loving to do so. Presenting my girls with scrapbooked recipe books that brought them both lovely & nostalgic moments; allowed them to share & learn about their deceased grandmothers (& greats!) through the use of handwritten recipes & notes thereon & prompted the usual round of good natured, comparitive competition to see what was different in each of their books & say "see, told u Mom always liked/loved me better". That they r blessed with good humour as well their good culinary skills. :)
My cooking tragedies
Learning to BBQ & having 'steak like our Mother used to make' (thank-u, my brother)... dried out & tougher than shoe leather.

Strawberry Tarts
Totally the recipe I was looking for - not custard based, just pure strawberries & glaze. This is an awesome recipe (although I will likely reduce the sugar slightly next time) :)
