About this Cook
Hi there.... I am a divorced mother of 2 children. Son 22 and daughter 13. My son is away in college and I share custody of my daughter. I have an 82 year old mother that rarely cooks anymore. I am a commodities broker and I work from home. I love to eat so it's a good thing that I like to cook!! Cooking is a favorite hobby. Several times a week after a busy day working... i'll go downstairs, turn up the music and try new receipes from allrecipes.com. I entertain often and my guests usually love my cooking. Additionally, I cook for both my mother and my son and send them home with care packages weekly. They both love homemade meals from my kitchen. Cooking for my family and my friends is one of the ways that I show them love. It's one of the best gifts that I can give and a gift that I know is very much appreciated.
My favorite things to cook
Summertime and springtime... I enjoy bbqing using all the fresh veggies of the season. Lots of salads too Additionally... I am a boater and do lots of fishing and clamming so I eat lots of fish during the summer months. In the fall and winter...I enjoy lots of comfort foods such as soups, pastas and meat and potatoes. Love using the slow cooker in the winter as well.
My favorite family cooking traditions
When I was growing up every Sunday we went to church then to the bakery. We came home and made a huge brunch with eggs, sausage, rolls, bagels, tomatoes etc. On holidays... we have a very large extended family so there was lots and lots of cooking and eating.
My cooking triumphs
Lots of the recipes from this site... Asian beef skewers, asian salad, bannana pudding, Lisa's easy chicken, bowties with sausage, tomatoe and cream, etc. etc. etc.
My cooking tragedies
Christmas breakfast sausage casserole from this site. I don't know what I did but it turned out to be a complete disaster. The dog ate well that day!! Also...I had a family party this past March. There was lots of commotion and I was trying to do 10 things at once. I put pizza in the oven to reheat. The cheese dripped down inside the oven and burned filling the house with smoke which set off the fire alarm. It was freezing out and we had to open all the doors and windows. I had my dogs running through the house tripping all my guest (some elderly). Fire department calling, cousins running around trying to shut off the smoke alarm. It was so crazy and one of my elderly aunts said to me as I walked her out to the car... "I don't know if I'm comming or going".

Easy Roasted Pork
wow!! Sometimes it amazes me how the simplist dishes can be the best!! I doubled the recipe because I had a 4lb roast. The only change that I made was to put this in the slow cooker for about 5 hours on high. The "gravy" was thin but I really enjoyed the consistency over egg noodles. It was a hit here at our home!!!

Darra's Famous Tuna Waldorf Salad Sandwich Filling
This was really good. I also think it would be good with diced ham as well. I think this might be better on crackers.. it does lose itself wrapped in a big roll.
