I enjoy making recipes that my family has passed down for generations. My grandma is an excellent cook so I look to her for many of my family recipes. Helping my grandma make her "Strawberry Pie" for our family reunions every year. It's always a hit when I have introduced my family recipes to my friends out here in NM. They love that "Midwest" american cooking! When I first made my mom's "Green Chile Chicken Enchiladas" once I moved here to New Mexico, my friends had bought me some real, roasted green chile instead of canned. Not ever having made the recipe with roasted green chile, I chopped it up and mixed it in. While we eating our meal I noticed that my friends were pulling something out of their mouths. They then shared that they were pulling out the peels and that I was supposed to peel the green chile first! They were so gracious about it but we laugh to this day when it's brought up!
