About this Cook
I have a husband and three kids who love home cooked meals. They all enjoy it when I try new recipes and also make the tried and true.
My favorite things to cook
I love to try new recipes so I cook a lot of different things. In the summer I like to make things light and I love to grill. Using all of the fresh vegetables and fruits is a must. I like (try to) incorporate vegetarian recipes and fresh fish every week. In the fall and winter I love to make comfort foods. We also love soups and chili so those are two staples in the winter. I also love to bake and love experimenting with new things. My kids love cookies so we make many different kinds. Fall baking is great with a lot of pumpkin and apple recipes. In the summer we make a lot of great desserts with fresh fruit.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I have many favorite traditions that invole my kids in the kitchen. Saturday morning breakfasts (hubby helps with this!). Baking pumpkin muffins on Thanksgiving morning while watching the Macy's parade with my kids (this is my favorite!). Baking Christmas cookies and Christmas morning breakfast. Making greek easter cookies and baking a lamb or bunny cake. Halloween goodies...decorated sugar cookies and halloween cupcakes. Also dinner on Halloween...always something simple but creepy! Another favorite is our Valentine's Day dinner. I think this is the kids favorite. Always individual heart shaped meatloaf, mashed potatoes and salad. For dessert heart shaped mini brownies with chocolate frosting and valentine sprinkles. And of course a home made cake on everyones birthday. Whatever they choose is what I bake.
My cooking triumphs
I'd have to say making a good a pie crust and preparing ethnic food. I love to make Greek food and pastries so this would be a triumph to me. Anything my YiaYia (Grandma) made that I make now I am proud of. I also try to bake with whole grains so this is a work in progress. I have found quite a few healthy delicious recipes that work.
My cooking tragedies
Anytime I bake bread or anything else for that matter and it sticks to the bottom of the pan it is a disappointment for me. I have also had a couple of grilling tragedies until I finally (I think) have somewhat begun to master the grill instead of it mastering me.

Black Cat Cookies
These cat cookies taste just like a brownie and were simple to make. I thought they would be a pain, so I decided to roll and cut them out with a cookie cutter, but then I tried a few on my own and it was much easier that way. They turned out so cute! Definitely par bake and then add the candy corn/red hots at about the last 2-3 minutes.

Spooky Witches Fingers
These were so fun to make and taste so good! You definitely need to refrigerate the dough so it is easier to work with. I tinted it green and used red food coloring instead of the gel for blood. My kids thought they were so gross they didn't even want to eat them!

Maria's Stuffed Chicken Breasts
This recipe was great! I added extra garlic, Parmesan cheese, some Italian herbs, and fresh cracked pepper. Delicious!
