I’ll never forget the year when my Mom told me Santa was coming for Thanksgiving. I couldn’t have been in double-digits yet, and obviously, I still believed in Santa.
I grew up in a small community on an island in the Pacific Northwest, with two parents who had a knack at making friends and…

Jenny and Santa, I still don't look entirely sure of the situation!
Jimmy and Jenny with Santa
Jimmy and Jenny with Santa, I don't think this was the last photo we have with him either!
I'm always looking for new recipes. I love to cook, but I also love eating out! I love to eat things at restaurants I'm too intimidated to make at home. I've been a vegetarian my whole life, but I do cook meat for my family and friends. (I have also been known to eat the occasional slice of bacon or pepperoni!) If I have the time, I love to browse through my cookbooks and cooking magazines--even when I'm not looking for anything in particular.
My favorite things to cook
I have so many favorites! I enjoy anything ethnic and flavorful, Indian and Thai are at the top of my list. I love to try new things too! I love to bake, but other than basic cookies and quick breads things don't usually work out in my favor.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My family often wonders where I get my love for cooking--since my Mom does not like to cook and my Dad was always too busy to cook. Perhaps I am a foodie at heart and it was an instinct for survival?
My cooking triumphs
This would have to be Christmas 2007. I cooked the biggest meal I have ever made, all from scratch. Because we knew it was our last Christmas with our Dad, I made all of his favorites, including Salmon with Creamy Dill Sauce and scalloped potatoes. I also made a turkey, Chicken Cordon Bleu, sweet potatoes, stuffing, and a green salad. I almost ran out of room in the oven!
My cooking tragedies
My most recent tragedy was rushing while making biscuits, and not reading the ingredients very well. I accidentally used baking soda instead of baking powder, and they turned out disgusting. They were salty little hockey pucks!
