Barm Brack

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2008
Yum! I originally tried this on holiday in Wales this past "summer" and it was delicious. It was recommended to me to try it spread with butter, the way the Welsh have it, and I loved it. This recipe is the exact of what I had in that little cafe in Wales and tastes fantastic. A definite must on my table this winter

Easy Granola Bars

Reviewed: Aug. 13, 2008
These are pretty good. I added seedless raisens rather than cranberries because of the cost, and couldnt find anything other than organic chocolate drops so used smashed up plain cooking chocolate pieces. I also missed out coconut because I can't stand the stuff! They're really moreish and my daughter loves them. We will be taking them camping with us on Saturday.

The Best Banana Bread

Reviewed: Jul. 1, 2008
I was surprised this recipe didnt state a pan size, so I just guessed. I didnt mash the banana completely, i left it chunky, I also followed advice from previous reviewers and used half cup brown sugar and half cup white. This was lovely :-)

Sweet Potato Corn Bread

Reviewed: Jun. 22, 2008
I wasn't overly impressed with this recipe. I expected a good taste of sweet potatoes in this, but I could only really taste baking powder. I would cut out at least 1 tsp of baking powder, add some cracked black pepper and add some corn kernals in with the batter in future.

White Bread I

Reviewed: Jun. 14, 2008
I made this the old fashioned way - by hand as my bread machine is on the blink. It was lovely. I left it to rise over night with a damp cloth over the top to stop it drying out and then baked on 175C for 1 hour on the bottom shelf of the oven. I then left it to cool with another damp cloth over the top to soften the crust. It was lovely, so tasty I could have eaten the whole loaf!! Great with home made butter. Yum.

Crazy Crust Pizza Dough

Reviewed: May 24, 2008
i halved this because it was for a piza for my daughter. She is allergic to citric acid, and as that is a preservative in so many things, making stuff from scratch has become commonplace. She enjoyed this crust, and has asked that we make it again. So easy she helped make it with me - and she's 4! :-)

Angie's Perfect Dinner Rolls

these were soft but a bit heavy. I made some of them into calzones by rolling them flat, spreading tomato puree, grated cheese and salami accross, then folding over and baking. They were great! :-D

Best Bread Machine Bread

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2008
I followed recommendations of adding an extra 1/2 tsp salt, and it rose beautifully. This was really soft inside with a crunchy outside. I like this, and didn't taste any oil flavour - as others said they had. This is soft enough to use for sandwiches.

Banana Bread VIII

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2008
I'm giving this 2 stars because once I had mixed in all the ingredients, I had a dry mess! There was no way this was "pouring" anywhere!!! I had to add 1/2 cup of milk to get a batter consistancy, so that I could pour it into my loaf pan. Once baked, this was great, not too sweet, and very banana-ry. I would say this is more of a cake than a bread though, because I have tried other banana breads that are more like a bread than a cake. This would be good with raisens added in too.

Basil Chicken over Angel Hair

I omitted the hot pepper sauce because i was eating this with my 4 yr old daughter, and i knew she wouldn't like it hot. This was great, so more-ish! I couldnt stop eating it!!! Definitely a regular on our table.

Caraway Scones

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2008
I followed the directions to this exactly, but when it came to the kneading process, it was impossible! The batter was way too soft - like a cake batter. I dolloped it onto the baking sheet and even though i tried to score the top, it didn't show at all and i had to cut it after it had finished baking. The taste was good.

Banana Bread - Quick Bread for Machines

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2008
As with other reviews, i took the advice to add an extra banana, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, 4oz Apple Sauce and some seeds. I chose pumpkin seeds. I did need to cook this a bit longer than the recommended time, i had to cook for about 70 minutes - which was really irritating because my bread machine is a breville, and the bake setting is only 10 minutes long! I had to keep re setting it!! This was great, very moist and flavourful, everyone loved it.

Bananas About Homemade Yogurt!

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2008
This is my recipe, and I heat the milk in the microwave until it's just about to boil, then all all ingredients to the yogurt maker and stir thoroughly. I then set the yogurt maker for 4 hours. Once the 4 hours is up, I always end up with loads of whey, which, if left in the yogurt, will make the yogurt stringy if you just mix it all in. I always strain the yogurt through a coffee filter to remove the whey, then pour into a bowl, cover and refrigerate over night. I always end up with really thick, creamy yogurt that is delicious. You can leave the yogurt for longer than 4 hours - up to 12 hours (4 is the minimum though)but I have never noticed a difference in taste for leaving it longer. Therefore to save time (and electricity!) I generally only leave my yogurt maker on for 4 hours.

French Canadian Tourtiere

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2008
I wasn't too impressed with this at all. I had to reduce the cooking time because the crust was going to burn (it was fully heated all the way through). When I cut into the pie, it all fell apart and looked a mess. It was bland and definitely missing something. Other Tourtiere pies I have had have diced potatoes and celery included in the filling, and maybe this would have made it more tasty. I won't be repeating this recipe.

Spam on the Go

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2008
When I was a kid, my dad used to make us eat Spam with salads all the time, and it was gross! It made me reluctant to try this recipe. I'm glad I did, it was surprisingly nice. I used low sodium Spam and Soy Sauce, whole wheat spaghetti, and instead of vegetable oil I used EVOO. I did find this a bit greasy, so I would recommend, rather than 1tbsp vegetable oil to halve it as the Spam has a good deal of fat any way. We had Ketchup with this, which added a good flavour too :-)

Fabulous French Loaves

I halved this and made it in my bread machine (because im lazy!!). I added a clove of garlic after reading other reviews. I found the crust very crispy. The bread inside the crust was very light and fluffy. Definitely a winner here.
