Banana Muffins I
The best Challah EVER- Challah I, Rosh haShanah
About this Cook
I'm 16 years old and am attending Stuyvesant HS. I luv 2 cook, and i luv food! I lost 35 pounds a while ago, and i enjoy cooking healthy, but making it taste, well, kinda unhealthy, i guess. When i make fatty foods they generally are distributed to my friends at school, so they can get fat =)I am white and a recent convert to Islam from reform Judaism. I LOVE indian food...u might call it an obsession, really. My goal is to own my own bakery or cafe (NOT to be a chef or work in a restaurant), but i want to major in food science or nutrition (or both) in college. Cooking for me is really a relaxation process. To tell the truth, im in love with the kitchen, and i always will be. =)
My favorite things to cook
I like to cook things with rich sauces that don't really have a lot of fat in them, even tho u could never tell. I also love baking bread. Fudge and other sweets are a big hit with my friends, and i rly enjoy making candies. Food that involves intense labor really relaxes me, lol. I like arranging whole meals so that the main dish has some side dishes, etc, that compliment it.
My favorite family cooking traditions
The memory of latkes every chanuka is vivid in my mind, and it's one of my favorite foods.
My cooking triumphs
One of my proudest moments was making Challah for Rosh Hashanah, and it really tasted authentic! It was my first time! My friends also love my fudge, which i put interchanging middle layers into, like caramel and white fudge-like stuff, and nougat, etc. I generally choose recipes well, so my food usually comes out good. The recipes that i've invented are something i'm proud of too- chicken coated in middle eastern spices with sweet squash, both cooked until they become one, and chicken coated in a spice mix i bought in Granada, Spain, cooked with onions until absolutely irresistable. Im proud that i can actually think up my own things instead of having to depend on other people =)
My cooking tragedies
I made a chocolate drink in the blender, and substituted yogurt for half the milk in the recipe. i nearly threw up from the nastiness of it....

Best Basic Sweet Bread
OMG this makes suchh good rolls! I steeped chai tea spices in the warm milk and it made it taste soooo good! I will definitely make this any time i want some type of sweet roll...best right out of the oven, or toasted! I used it in bread pudding when it got stale, and it was really really good.

Chocolate Heart Cookies
These tasted really good, and the presentation i made was gorgeous: i spread the cookies with melted white chocolate, and then piped squiggles of darker chocolate (i just mixed cocoa with the white chocolate) onto the cookies. People really liked them, and they gasped when they say the pretty presentation. Very nice for valentines day--shaped like hearts, AND chocolatey! Refrigerate before rolling, it makes it easier.

Easy Valentine Sandwich Cookies
This is such a good basic sugar cookie recipe! Everyone absolutely LOVED them! The plain sugar cookie was out of this world, and as sandwiches it was pretty ok -- i rly would suggest using raspberry preseves instead of the frosting, or at least mixing a lot fo the preserves with the frosting. It makes it taste sooo good. My cookies were HUGE, but it was ok, because they tasted so good! Using the size cookie cutter suggested would be a good idea though. These really dont need to be made into sandwiches - i find them rly good when spread with melted chocolate, and then aloow that to harden as a form of icing. Delicious!!!! The dough needs to be refrigerated, and if it starts to rip when u roll it out (in confectioners sugar, yum), it means ur probly rolling them too thin, so stop!
