About this Cook
Just a country gal from Kansas making her wee way in the world!
My favorite things to cook
Deserts are my favorite thing to make.. perhaps because they are my favorite thing to eat! Cookies, cakes, and bars! Mmmmmm! Also love to make yeast breads! Cheese breads, cinamon rolls, raisin bread, or just plain ol' bread! It's all good!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Hmm... I don't have many traditions. I do make a lot of candy at Christmas time, and I am the one expected to bring it to the family gathering, so I suppose that is a favorite. When I was a wee thing, one tradition, when it snowed a lot, was that mom would make snow icecream! That was always so much fun!
My cooking triumphs
I dont' get alot of complaints about my cooking. I make alot of cookies for various functions at our local library and people usually look forward to that.
My cooking tragedies
*sigh* I once went on a low fat/no fat diet. I tried a recipe that was for cookies that called for an angel food cake mix and light blueberry pie filling. That was the biggest flop I have ever seen in my life. Huge mess!

Sausage Crescent Rolls
YUMMY! This is soooo good! My slight alterations? I used 1/3 less fat cream cheese and reduced fat crescents. Also I used half spicy and half regular sausage (husband is not a huge fan of spicy) And they were sooooooo good. I am going to make another batch and see how well they hold up to a freezer for a quick fix meal!

Chewy Chocolate Peanut Bars
Not so great. Sorry, but I have to agree with another rating on here that states that these taste kind of bland. I didn't follow the recipe to a T because I had no peanuts.. so I just increased my oatmeal by 1/2cup and put in 3/4 c. of coconut... I don't think that should have made any difference in how they tasted... but I'm still going with bland. I will stick with no-bake chocolate oatmeal cookies next time, made with cocoa instead of chips. Also... I would definately not boil this for 5 minutes like it says.. I was at a minute when it started scorching, even though I was stirring constantly. I added a tablespoon of butter to get it to stop scorching but pulled it off after only boiling a minute and a half.. and that was at less than medium heat. Will not make these again.

Skillet Pork Chops with Potatoes and Onion
Good recipe! Easy, simple, yummy! I would follow what others have said and use less salt.. or even leave it out next time. Also, I did cook my potatoes for a bit in a separate skillet while the chops were browning.. however.. I think next time I won't do that.. They turned out a little too tender... but they were still quite tasty!
