Mostly a stay-at-home mom to 2 boys and a little girl, but also a flight attendant. We all play hockey (what else is there to do in Alaska?). I am very lucky to have 3 wonderful men in my life, because I can join them doing all the things boys love to do...play in the mud and sports and also I have a job where I get to dress up and be a girlie girl too. I have always love to bake and found it very easy but, cooking well that was another story. I felt very intimidated by the idea of making meals. I do have to say in the beginning my husband and I ate out a lot or ate cereal for dinner, but always had great desserts. Now we hardly ever eat out. I started how watching "How to Boil Water" on the Food Network making some of the dishes and picking up tidbits until I felt I could start improvising on my own. Now, I can usually recreate our favorites at home to our likings, so we hardly go out to eat unless I am exhausted.
My favorite things to cook
I LOVE to bake almost anything. As for cooking, I love to BBQ anything (I am starting to think I am better than my husband, but don't tell him that ;-). I love cooking lasagna, gourmet salads, overnight French toast, asparagus quiche, salmon, and prime rib with gorgonzola sauce, death by chocolate and cherries jubilee.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Growing up I loved making donuts on Sat. morning with my dad. I also love that my mom would make our fav. meal for our birthdays. I always make my husband a German chocolate cake with homemade frosting for his birthday. I enjoy sharing my love of cooking with my sons and getting them to enjoy cooking with me in the kitchen.
My cooking triumphs
After getting a serious case of food poisoning at the last family Thanksgiving dinner. I decided to host Thanksgiving dinner for 15 people even though I had never cooked a turkey before, let alone for that many people, during the middle of a remodel and new furniture being delivered as I was cooking. I thought if at least the family didn't get sick it would be a success. I think my mother-in-law was very stressed out until she arrived and saw how everything was prepared and the food tasted wonderful. Unfortunately I think that success just signed me up for Thanksgiving dinner for life....
My cooking tragedies
Homemade mac and cheese, very dull tasting, still working on getting that to taste better.
