This is simply wonderful. I made a half batch and now I wish I'd made the full amount!

Marinated Chicken Kabobs

Reviewed: Aug. 31, 2008
I made this for a guest and my husband tonight, and we all loved it. I used chicken thighs instead of chicken breast, and I added chunks of zucchini. This may be the best kabob recipe I've made yet.

Awesome Bow Tie Pasta

Reviewed: Aug. 31, 2008
I made this with fresh, home grown tomatoes and basil from our garden and it was superb! I substituted Newman's Own balsamic vingaigrette for the balsamic vinegar and oil called for, and I added sliced canned black olives.

Creole Black-Eyed Peas and Rice

Reviewed: Jun. 5, 2008
This was good, but one teaspoon of black pepper is too much. I'll try 1/2 teaspoon next time. We will probably also add a drop or two of hot sauce to our individual plates at the table.

This was good. Definitely add some extra pesto, though. I used about 4 tablespoons and I think next time I'll use even more.

Gourmet Chicken Salad II

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2007
This was very good. Reviewers who found the rosemary to be overwhelming may not have been using fresh rosemary -- if you are going to use dried rosemary you need to reduce the amount to one teaspoon. My husband doesn't like nuts, so I left them out of his portion. He tried one bite with walnuts in it; he agreed that the walnuts are needed to balance the intensity of the blue cheese taste, but thought perhaps raisins might do the same thing. I might add some halved grapes or some raisins next time.

Made this as is, with garden fresh tomatoes and cucumbers. This is truly excellent.

Oaxacan Tacos

Reviewed: May 28, 2007
My husband made these and we liked them very much. I would give them 4 stars, but he says 3. The amount of lime called for seemed excessive. He says next time he would use skirt steak and cook it on the grill, slicing it after it was cooked. I'm sure I'll be seeing this on my table again later in the summer.

Czech Cabbage Dish

Reviewed: Apr. 16, 2007
This tasted very authentically Czech, remniscent of the vegetable side dishes my husband and I were served in Prague. I made the recipe exactly as written (blanching the cabbage until it was tender but not completely limp) and it was perfect as is. We did add more salt at the table.

Apple Cole Slaw

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2007
This is really excellent, easy and tastes very fresh. I've made this several times now, and I find I like it better with a bit less brown sugar and a bit more lemon. I also tend to use only one apple, but it's also lovely with two.

Greek Salad V

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2007
This is just like the salads we were served all over Greece, except that in Greece, the feta was not crumbled. Instead, a slice of feta was balanced atop the other ingredients; we like doing that at home, too. I also use regular cucumber rather than English cucumbers.

Swedish Jam Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2006
These are excellent. I made a batch for my choir and they were devoured within minutes. The recipe made about two dozen. There was no opportunity for the jam to fall out because the cookies never made it into a cookie jar. Also, the jam dries out a little and adheres to the cookie as it cools. I'd like to give this four and a HALF stars.

Purple Apple Slaw

This is wonderful, fast and fresh and delicious. I have made this a half dozen times already because we enjoy it so much. I made the recipe as is, though now that I've read the other reviews, I might try a few variations.

Amy's Cilantro Cream Sauce

Reviewed: Apr. 7, 2006
I served this with bowtie pasta and poached chicken breasts. It was very good with both. I chilled the leftovers and used it the next day as a dip for nacho chips, and it was superb! I couldn't find tomatillo salsa either, so I just used regular salsa. If I ever find tomatillo salsa I will be sure to try the recipe that way. Edited to add: my husband found tomatillo salsa for me and this recipe is superb using that.

Chicken and Cold Noodles with Spicy Sauce

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2005
This is also good warm. I made a double batch: half to eat warm at dinner and half to chill for lunch the next day. Very tasty. I can't seem to find hot chili oil anywhere, so I substituted a smaller amount of Tabasco sauce. EDITED TO ADD: Finally located some chile oil, and the recipe is even better using it (the full amount called for in the recipe). I've found that the chicken needs to cook a bit longer, closer to 25 minutes.

Excellent. I used walnuts the second time I made this, since I had no pecans; they worked fine. My guests loved this. Could use a few more cherries, though.
