About this Cook
I am a Colorado native. I have always had a thirst for knowledge. I'm sure I'm one of the Denver Public Library's biggest patrons! I tend to find a subject and research it until I know all I need to know. Perhaps that's why cooking has escaped my list of talents (until more recently)...you have to learn a lot by doing. I'm learning to enjoy the process of preparing great meals (even for a party of one, as I live alone) in hopes if I were to have family they would eat well and share that skill in their families in the future!
My favorite things to cook
Anything with bacon & avacado and I'm in! I also love cooking roasts that I can put into individual portions and freeze. That way I can take out a serving or two as needed and have meat on hand for things like sandwiches.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I grew up on hamburger helper meals thrown together by hurried parents. I always knew that I valued cooking but where to turn? Ah yes...the personal laptop and allrecipes.com are beautiful things for those up us that weren't raised in a family of cooks!
My cooking triumphs
I made creme brulee! Very simple actually but who thought I'd be one with little ramekins and... a torch!
My cooking tragedies
Roast beef and ramen surprise...don't ask. Sometimes surprises aren't so pleasant!

Warm Blue Cheese Dip with Garlic and Bacon
I had a party last year where I first serve this dip. This year was the second annual event and I was given as RSVP contingent upon serving this dip again. I made a lot & i was devoured! You may want to keep it warm in a small crock pot or serve in a microwave dish that can be warmed up a few times through the night as its at it best texture & taste served warm. Mmmm!

Sarge's EZ Pulled Pork BBQ
Wonderful! Used Cattlemen's smoky BBQ sauce from Sams Club & everyone loved it - perfect dish for serving a lot of people & freezes well for great leftovers!

Graham Cracker Crust I
I used this crust in Pumpkin Pie this Thanksgiving. Now I really know what a "rave review" is! My Grandmother called her sister to give her this recipe, the pie vanished, and I got called (several times) to remind me to make it again for Christmas - wow. Also, I accidentally double baked the crust on accident (baked it and then realized the other recipe called for an unbaked pie shell)- not to worry! Cover the exposed edges and bake away, it actually carmelizes even more...mmmmm!
