Full time mother of two kids-daughter that eats very well and a son that is very picky. Love to cook and love to feed people! Love of cooking came from watching my mother cook great food while running a family business. I want my kids to remember "mom's cooking". Compliments from family and friends are what motivates my love for cooking.
My favorite things to cook
Just moved to Maui and started to bake and make desserts. Love to make comfort foods, Taiwanese food, Korean food, kids meals, pastas, seafood, vegetarian, meats(husband is meat and potato person) and just about anything that I find interesting
My favorite family cooking traditions
I'm Korean so we do have traditions. Cooking certain dishes on special days, and passing them on to my kids. I always cook a traditional turkey dinner for thanksgiving, but always incorperate some Asian flavors.
My cooking triumphs
My Husband is Taiwanese and when I met him in the states he had always mention that he missed the food back home. His mother who was my best friend and always considered me as her own daughter taught me how to cook Taiwanese foods and now my husband and his mother thinks I cook great taiwanese food for someone who is not Taiwanese. My mother in law has since passed on but I will never forget her teaching and the true saying-The way to a mans heart is through his stomach.
My cooking tragedies
I also love filipino food and wanted to make "chicken adobo". I sort of knew what ingredients were needed but not the exact measurements. I attempted to make it and realize that I had put WAY too much vinegar and had the house smelling like a chemical hazzard! I ended up explaining to my neighbors about the smell and basically had "pickled chicken". I was smart enough the next time to ask one of my dearest Filipino friends for the recipe and realized the amount of vinegar I used was lethal..Now I make a pretty good chicken adobo!
