Golden Sweet Cornbread

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2008
I actually followed this recipe exactly which is rare for me. I doubled it and expected that it would be like a cornbread cupcake because of the "too sweet" reviews but it was just fine. It is supposed to be sweet!! So It shouldn't too sweet if you're used to sweet cornbread waAllahu alim.

These are okay. they are little crumbly. I made as stated. I think I like cookies better with a little whole wheat flour in it.

Banana Pancakes I

Definitely puree the wet ingredients. Along with vanilla and cinnamon others recommend try omitting the sugar and using ice milk or half ice cream/half milk in place of just milk. smelled like banana bread cooking. yummy. this is a keeper

Boston Baked Beans

Reviewed: Apr. 26, 2008
Tasty! For those who complained about mushy beans. I believe it maybe the quality of the beans you brought. I have made more dry beans than I care to try and count and they never came out mushy....until today AND I noticed it right after soaking them. I couldnt even boil them the 2 hours the recipe calls for (they were already too soft). I used the quick soaking method (bring to a boil and set aside)rinsed them, mixed in the other ingredients as the recipe calls for and baked for an hour - 90 minutes. half the time uncovered. It still came out great. I didnt have molasses or brown sugar so i just added about 1- 1 1/2 cups white sugar. turned out great. family loved it, just talking about it makes me want more.

I wasnt expecting this to be real flavorful. just yellow.lol. Saffron doesnt have a really strong flavor but it does have a very mild and unique one.

Sweet Potato Biscuits

Reviewed: Mar. 26, 2007
This was a good recipe. The first time I tried it, the biscuits came out dry. So this time, I doubled the butter (which is what i used instead of shortening), added an extra teaspoon of baking powder, I also eyed my milk as the recipe suggested only adding enough to make it into a ball. I also left my sweet potatoes a little undone so i had little flecks of sweet potatoe pieces cooked nicely in the biscuits and cooked them a little slower on 375 instead of 400. they came out very nice and tender. yummy

So, this is my first time cooking tofu and I thought this recipe was pretty easy but uhm.....yuck, but i think maybe i just dont like the tofu because i LOVE bbq sauce. I used to think bbq sauce could make anything taste good....i was wrong.

Carrot Cookies II

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2006
I halfed the recipe and I added vanilla because I didnt have any orange zest. I also cooked these in my toaster oven so they didnt brown on the sides but I took them out at the time said in the recipe. This is THE BEST recipe I have tried on this site! These cookies are excellent!!! and since I see people added other things to the recipe like walnuts and raisins I guess that means I can add more carrots!!!! thank you so much for this recipe. it is SUPER DUPER DELICIOUS!!!! if i ever gave any other recipe 5 stars , I take one back and give this one extras. yummy yummy yummy

Louisiana Sweet Potato Pancakes

Reviewed: Aug. 2, 2006
Delicious num numms!!! Made this with my kids. it ended up as brunch b/c it took so long but it was delicious. i added vanilla and extra cinnamon per advice. they were tender and yummy. i was a bit worried about eye-ing 3/4 of a lb. of sweet potato so i did one large and one half of a meduim and that worked fine. i pricked and nuked my potatoes in the microwave for 15 minutes, that made them just right. then i just opened them and scooped the insides out so i skipped the cold water thing.it was fine. i had my 2 yr old add the milk and vanilla too cool the potatoes b4 adding the egg. worked out great. If you find that your pancakes are rubbery its b/c you mixed them too much. mix it until just combined well then leave it. oh, i also let the batter rest about 30 min. per other reviews. We ate it with homwmade applesauce so minus the syrup. I wouldnt make it again for a normal breakfast b/c of the time it took but i can see doing this (minus the kiddies) for a bring-a-dish affair

Veronica's Apple Pancakes

Reviewed: Aug. 1, 2006
This was nice. I have made these so many times i'm just going to write the recipe down and kept it so i wont keep having to look it up. it is cookbook material. It is a good recipe to have children help with. even my 2 yr old got in on it. I added more sugar than said. and we didnt have apples the first time so i reduced the milk and added apple juice. YUMMMMMY. Be careful not to add anymore liquid than said in this recipe, it will make your pancakes too moist (wet) on the inside.

Mahogany Chicken Wings

I substituted in this recipe. i used chili powder and spaghetti sauce. It was still okay-good. I think it would have been a true four ( i couldnt do three and a half so i did four) if they were marinated in the sauce for a longer time.

Hot Tomato Grits

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2005
Good and yummy. My husbad who likes his grits with salt, pepper and sugar declined to eatit (party pooper) but my 1 and 4 year old gobbled it up.Everybody had seconds! We tried it with and without sugar. Of course, they ate even faster once I added the sugar. We ate it for breakfast and the entire time I had a hankering for some fried fish. if I try a recipe twice, it's good! and im trying this again with fried fish InshaAllah. its simple too, easy enough to make a family repeat. Thanx.

Italian Nutthouse Broiled Tomatoes

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2005
This was good. A recipe I actually had all the ingredients too, wow! I used dried parmesan and added some mozarella on top. I did it in a toaster oven so it took like 15 minutes to (partially) brown instead of three!!! My cheese started to slide off as it cooled also but i was already halfway through the meal lol. Dont be afraid of the salt and DONT USE MSG! If the food is really good you dont need it and this was.

Oven Fried Chicken II

Reviewed: Sep. 8, 2005
When reading the reviews to this recipe I noticed that quite a bit of the ppl who gave it a 5 actually changed the recipe so much that, they didnt give this recipe a 5 they gave THEIR recipe a 5! lol. This recipe at face value is a little over rated. I gave this recipe a two because you have to cut down the oil alot, add more seasons to the seasoned bread crumbs and season the chicken more. A few of the reviewrs used a little italian dressing in the eggs. You also should spray your pan with PAM or lightly grease it, instead of placing it in half a cup of oil. I made the modified version of the recipe but gave this recipe a two because after the reviews I found out it was a little over rated and thought I would be fair and balance it out. I saw quite a few of the reviewers who followed the actual recipe found it " bland and soggy" after reading those reviews i didnt think I'd dare to follow the actual recipe to the "T".
