About this Cook
I've only started discovering that perhaps I DO like to cook in the last six months or so. I'm a full time student, but am not currently working so that gives me more time to try out new things than I've had previously. I prefer uncomplicated meals because I still consider myself a beginner at this point, but I'm willing to get more adventurous as well. I like new variations on old favorites. My cooking is further complicated by the fact that I love cheese, but my husband usually hates it, so I don't cook anything that cheese can't be left out of (with only a few exceptions like lasagna.)
My favorite things to cook
My husband and I aren't, unfortunately, on an unlimited budget so we eat a lot of meals based in ground beef, chicken quarters, and pasta, but I'm looking for dishes more creative than the meatloaf/bbq chicken/spaghetti rut we're afraid of falling into.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Baking has always been a specialty in my family, so I can tackle most desserts with confidence. My husband and I have found an herbed chicken recipe we love and make frequently.
My cooking triumphs
I have finally conquered the art of slow-cooker pot roast from my sister-in-law's recipe! I've also acheived a pretty mean chicken cacciatore. We were out of prepared spaghetti sauce one night, so I attempted making my own and made far too much, so I used the leftover sauce the next night to bake chicken in. That turned out surprisingly well.
My cooking tragedies
Numerous. My banana bread overflowed onto the bottom of the oven. The first time I made meatloaf the pan was too small and we ended up having to microwave it to get the center done. My first pot roast was liking eating a shoe.
