About this Cook
I am Bengali living with my husband in the UK. I am finishing a degree in Sociology but cooking is my biggest hobby!
My favorite things to cook
I love baking and making sweets. When I was a kid, my mother always said I have a hand for cakes and cookies (that is after she every time got over the shock of cleaning up the kitchen). I think baking is an art and for me it is one of the best ways to spend a few hours! I also love cooking Bengali and Indian dishes because of the magic of spices in them and the huge scope for creativity.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Probably making a special cake for everyone's birthday with my mother. It is always the waffle cake with caramel and walnut filling and I still love it to tears.
My cooking triumphs
Has to be when I first made a chocolate truffle cake for my husband. It was pretty fancy and rich -loads of butter, chocolate, cream and eggs. He was really impressed and said it was better then his favourite shop cake!
My cooking tragedies
My first batch of lemon muffins... I will not go into detail, but let me just say they were flat as a table and what seemed like litres of oil kept oozing out of them!

Peach Kuchen
Lovely! I added some almond essence to the base and it turned out just great. Definetely will make again (even my peach-hating hubby loved it!). Thanks.

Pakistani Spicy Chickpeas
This is a basically good recipe that needs a bit of flavour and interest added. I add about 1 tsbp of chaat masala (available from Indian groceries) towards the end of cooking and serve with puffed rice - yummy!
