About this Cook
I am 26 and work for the state of California. My husband of 4 years and our pugs make up our little family.
My favorite things to cook
Monkey bread with my nieces!! Or anything in the slow cooker...it makes the house smell so good!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mother was (is) a terrible cook - and the saddest part is it is done intentionally. A standard meal at mom's is pan-fried chicken (seasoned with Pam...yummy yummy!) with a steamed green veggie of some kind and baguette. She is convinced that anything good tasting cannot be healthy. So I have taken more after my grandmother - who loved to cook and bake. She has been gone for over 10 years and we still talk about grandma's banana bread and chocolate fudge. I am now starting to create new "traditional" family foods with my husband - comfort foods that we like to cook together and love to eat.
My cooking triumphs
I love it when my husband or family ask for something specific that I have made before that they love.
My cooking tragedies
Just recently I tried to make a cajun chicken pasta with my husband. I had never cooked with cajun seasoning before, and I am not sure why I didn't bother to look at what exactly is in it, but I poured in WAY too much of it. The recipe called for 2 tbsp and I put in more like 2/3 cup. It was way too salty to eat so we went to Taco Bell for dinner. =)

Broccoli and Sausage Cavatelli
I omitted the olive oil, used fresh broccoli instead of frozen, and added 1/2 cup white wine and 1 chopped yellow onion to the sauteing garlic.

Delicious Ham and Potato Soup
I followed the advice of previous reviewers and omitted the salt. I also used white pepper and added about 4 cloves of chopped garlic. DELISH!

Simple Baked Apples
I didn't have walnuts or raisins and forgot (whoops!) to add the milk. After baking the apples for 45 minutes they still seemed firm to me, so I stirred them and put them back in for 5 minutes. I repeated that two more times and they were finally soft enough. These were awesome! So mildly sweet and perfectly tender. To those out there who found the sauce to be too rich I would suggest "forgetting" the milk. =)
