About this Cook
Proud mommy of the lovliest little girl in this world
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake- cookies & bars, pies, cakes, breads- I get such satisfaction from baking things from scratch...
My cooking triumphs
My mom thinks it's a big deal that I made a whole turkey dinner by myself at age 12 when she was away from home for the day.
My cooking tragedies
As I mentioned, BAKING is more my thing than other cooking methods. One day, my sisters and I decided we'd make a big feast for no particular reason. I wanted to smoke ribs, so I got a recipe and got everything together, got the woodchips for smoking, read the directions, and got everything going. Once the ribs were on(and they were supposed to slow-smoke for several hours), we left for a bit. When we returned, I opened the grill to find a RAGING fire inside: there was nothing left of the ribs but charred bones. All I can say is when the directions on the woodchips say soak, wrap in foil, poke holes, set on top of charcoal fire- the wet woodchips still catch fire when they're set ON TOP of the burning charcoal. Duh. At least now I know not to follow THOSE directions.

Broccoli Pie
This tasted good...but there's too much milk in it. When I took it out of the oven, the pan tilted a little and milk came draining out of the top. I just tipped it over the sink and drained off the excess, but if I make it again, I would use probably half the milk called for. Sharp cheddar cheese was good in it.

Oatmeal Pancakes II
Good, easy recipe- I just whisked everything together in a bowl, as I didn't have time to set up the food processor, and it worked just fine.

Dutch Apple Pie with Oatmeal Streusel
I wasn't so crazy about the spice combo in this- I think the allspice gave it a flavor I wasn't expecting, but that's just a matter of personal taste; it's overall a pretty good recipe.I used about 6 1/2 cups of apples to fill the crust all the way, and added some extra flour to account for that. I also left out the lemon zest- I just wasn't in the mood for it. Note that if you use unsalted butter, you may want to add some salt to the topping(which you will probably notice anyway, when you're eating the topping while you mix it-it is so yummy!).
