West African Chicken Stew

Reviewed: Nov. 3, 2008
I was so happy to find this recipe! I am one of he co-creators of the "Shrinking Chatter Safari through Africa" (found on the recipe exchange) and had been looking for a recipe to try out in honor of our trek. The heat of this dish is just right leaving a lingering tingle on the tongue. Very tasty and the peanut butter adds an extra depth of flavor that the whole family thoroughly enjoyed. I made exactly as written using olive oil for the veggie oil in the recipe. I wouldn't change a thing. Thank you for a wonderful recipe which will be a keeper in our rotation.

America's Favorite Grilled Cheese Sandwich

Reviewed: Oct. 31, 2008
Just wanted to share our version of this American classic: we like to add sliced pickles to ours. Hubby enjoys jalepenos in his. Sometimes, if the mood strikes, I even add a touch of worchestishire sauce to the butter.

What an easy and fun project to do with your children! My daughter and I made a whole batch for a party tomorrow. In additon to vanilla frosting we also used chocolate. I do believe they'll be the hit of the party!

Grilled Lemon Herb Pork Chops

Reviewed: Oct. 30, 2008
I made these last evening for dinner. I was concerned about the amount of lemon juice thinking it may be too much. The only change I made was to use 1-2 tbsp. FRESH herbs (added rosemary and thyme to the mix)to the marinade. These were very good! I served with broccoli and acorn squash for a wonderful autumn meal.

Spiced Pumpkin Seeds

Reviewed: Oct. 30, 2008
I've never fixed pumpkin seeds any other way other than olive oil and kosher salt. I am really glad I tried it this way. Very good. Reminds me of the seasonings for original homemade Chex Mix. My kids and even the picky boy next door are loving these.

Amish Oatmeal Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2008
Kids LOVED these! I made almost exactly (I didn't have peanuts so substitued almonds instead). The only problem I encountered was that it took 12 minutes to bake as opposed to 8-10 as indicated. Minor issue as my oven could just be a bit "slow". My kids told me that they taste just like Christmas cookies. A very good cookie indeed!

An awesome cookie! Everyone loved them and we made lots of $ when we sold them at a yard sale. I had people returning to see if we had any more! This truly is a "fully loaded" cookie and I'm really glad to see it finally published!

Peppy's Pita Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 16, 2008
A very good pita! I probably should have left in the oven longer to get mildly brown but they smelled so good that I couldn't wait! I thought I had enough flour on my counter for the pitas to rest prior to cooking, but they still kind of stuck as others have experienced. Minor issues that don't effect this 5 star rating. I will be serving with Greek Chicken and Easy Greek Cucumber Yogurt Sauce on this site.

Broccoli with Lemon Butter Sauce

Reviewed: Sep. 10, 2008
At first, my broccoli looked fine but unfortunately, over the course of just a few minutes, the sauce turned my broccoli a nasty shade of brown. It tasted just okay to me. My kids tried it but didn't care for it at all. Appearance is a big part of a dish's overall appeal and success. I wish I knew what I could have done differently to prevent the "browning" of my veggies.

Herbed Salmon

Reviewed: Sep. 10, 2008
This was a tasty way to prepare salmon. The only change I made was to use my pampered chef baking sheet and seal it with aluminum foil. I had a large salmon and it took longer than the stated time to cook. When it was done it was very moist and flavorful. I used fresh herbs from my garden and am glad I did! Thank you for a simple and delicious recipe.

Bread Machine Focaccia

I, and my family, really enjoyed this bread. It was very flavorful and a real success! I added a touch more herbs (sage and basil) to the rosemary and it took this modification well. I've posted a photo as it ended up being a very good looking bread. Thank you for sharing this very easy and tasty recipe.

Tantalizing Turkey and Blue Cheese Meatballs

Reviewed: Aug. 20, 2008
I made this recipe almost exactly as written (I used half the black pepper called for). Unfortunately the meat mixture was too wet to form into meat balls. An additional 1/2 cup of bread crumbs did the trick. I really enjoyed this recipe. The ingredients were subtle and complemented each other well. I served the meatballs with a balsamic reduction along with sides of wilted spinach and pasta with homemade pesto sauce. YUM! On a sorry note, my husband and children are traditionalists and prefer the same old turkey meatballs I usually make (not your fault). They gave you between 1 and 3 stars. However, I gave you 5! Since my vote counts more (after all, I searched for recipe, made recipe, prepared appropriate accompaniments and took the time to review said recipe), I gave you an average 4 star rating. You did a great job and should be proud of this recipe. I am impressed that this was submitted by a 15 year old. I look forward to great things from you!

Ricardo's Pizza Crust

Reviewed: Aug. 10, 2008
I'm sorry Ricardo, but as written this is not what I was expecting. 1st of all TOO MUCH SUGAR! Way too sweet...does not go with the savory flavors of the added garlic and herbs. Secondly, NOT ENOUGH FLOUR! We spent a good 15 minutes trying to get the sticky dough out of the bread machine pan. It did puff up quite a bit during baking so my advice is to roll thinLy unless you like a lot of dough with your pizza. I wouldn't mind trying this again with a fraction of the sugar and another cup or 2 of flour. EDIT: I read over the other reviews and am now questioning that maybe I did something wrong in the crust making process. That and the kids enjoyed their pizza. Okay...one more star. I guess maybe it was a personal taste thing. Still think it was way too sweet though.

Cumin Lamb Steaks with Smashed Potatoes, Wilted Spinach and Red Wine Sauce

Reviewed: Aug. 7, 2008
Disclaimer: I made the lamb only, not the spinach or potatoes so my review is focused on only the lamb. Very interesting combination of flavors. I never would have thought of cumin and a red wine reduction going together but in this circumstance it really works. The lamb was quite flavorful and my daughter (the other lamb lover in the family) enjoyed this dish as much, if not more, than I. I did feel the need to add a little kosher salt to the wine sauce because I felt it was just a touch too sweet. Otherwise, no modifications. Thanks for submitting a unique and flavorful recipe.
