Judy's Strawberry Pretzel Salad
Waiting for my children to return from shopping while at St. Maarten
About this Cook
Forced to be the main cook at home when the Wife abandoned the children and I to live with another woman. I now have a passion to cook. My toy room is the kitchen. Cooking in The Kitchen is like life... you want it always to turn out perfect, but sometimes it doesn't. It's a place to communicate with friends and those you love... It's a place to share, a place to laugh, to create and to console... a great place to flirt, in addition to cooking. I enjoy the pressure of putting it all together to present and hopefully provide some real enjoyment to those who eat. Even better... a hot date to me could be going to the supermarket and getting inspired by walking around looking at the fresh veggies and meat, buying the ingredients, cooking together, enjoying our creation with a good glass of wine (which I know nothing of) and some music. It all starts in the kitchen. I wouldn't hide during clean-up either. I make the mess, I clean it up. Unless of course, I get my own TV cooking show
My favorite things to cook
I would have to say my favorite thing to cook, at the moment, due to the season, are soups. I also enjoy most things cooked on the grill and stews. I want to learn to bake, but for reasons yet to discover, I may need a therapist to figure this out... I'm afraid to bake. Something about having to exactly measure out everything...
My favorite family cooking traditions
My favorite family cooking tradition has to be watching everyone running away from the kitchen when the time comes to help with cleaning it up...
My cooking triumphs
Pulling off a company barbecue (no hot dogs or hamburgers... just in case you're wondering) for 20+ people and timing it perfectly to have everything cooked to perfection at the designated time to eat. Rave reviews from all that ate.
My cooking tragedies
I'll have to kill you if I tell you...

Mom's Sweet Potato Bake
Delicious... very delicious. Followed most suggestion to eliminate the sugar as the sweet potatoes are sweet enough on their own. Doubled the topping and the rest was history. Yum delicious!!!

Never Enough Green Bean Casserole
Very tasty variation from the canned soup recipe. Used sharp cheddar instead of Velvetta and lots of fresh button mushrooms sliced and sauteed beforehand. Very good, enjoyed by all.

Roasted Butternut Squash Soup with Apples and Bacon
This recipe was made exactly as written. Simply said... Excellent Soup. I too can see this being served at a fine restaurant for $8+ per bowl. Some thoughts. If you don't have an immersion blender, buy one. For under 30 bucks, you can own the best stick blender there is (Cuisinart). Spending more won't get you better quality. Using a standard blender for this hot soup is both tedious and dangerous if your not on your game. Also you can have it all blended in the same Dutch Oven you've prepared it in. Also, I looked for frozen squash in three local supermarkets and couldn't find it. Had to settle for the fresh version and the extra work peeling and cutting the squash. This was so Yum Delicious!!!!.
