42 year old happily married, stay at home mother of 3, 2 daughters aged 20 and 9, my son is 13. At 16 I was responsible for nightly family dinners as my parents were divorced and my mother worked full time. I still really enjoy cooking after all these years. I prefer to cook meals rather than bake sweets. I love Food Network and the Taste of Home magazine. I own alot of cookbooks, but I find myself coming to this site more and more often.
My favorite things to cook
Soups, stews, anything Italian. I really would try anything once!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My kids LOVE to Fondue!! I bought an electric pot, so much better than messing with sterno. We just do an oil fondue and fry shrimp, steak, chicken, veggies. I prepare several dipping sauces. My 9 year old picky daughter never eats better!! We try to do this once a month and will keep it a tradition indefinately!!
My cooking triumphs
Although I do get alot of compliments on my cooking, the most rewarding was this summer when I hosted a barbeque for my in-laws and 8 of their closest friends to celebrate my father-in-laws retirement. They were all so complimentary and refered to the meal as better than any they could get in a restaurant. I prepared a spinach/artichoke dip, stuffed jalapenos, cornbread salad, brined/barbequed chicken, beef brisket, baked beans. I am my own toughest critic, and I will say everything turned out perfectly!!
My cooking tragedies
We were hosting a small barbeque with neighbors. I was grilling a beef brisket. I got to drinking, the brisket caught on fire, I mean totally engulfed!! The husbands saved the day by running to the local rib shack. 50 more dollars later a good time was had by all!!
