American Potato Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 25, 2006
This was just what I was looking for. This recipe makes the salad as close to mom's as possible. I did add about a 1/2 cup of carrots as she does and omitted the eggs. She doesn't use them!

The Easiest Blackened Chicken

Reviewed: May 18, 2006
You can "get by" with this recipe. It really needed some sort of additional flavoring. Careful in the amount of pepper or else the chicken tastes hot w/the worch. mix. Mine didn't blacken very well either. Will try to make again w/a few adjustments like maybe adding soem garlic or some sort of citrus.

Easy Beef Stroganoff

Reviewed: May 18, 2006
Out of the recipes available on this site, this is one of the best. It was way easy to make and had the whole kitchen smelling like heaven. The beef was seasoned from the inside out and was plenty tender. Will be made time and time again here.

This was good. A little greasy for my liking but good. My boyfriend rates this among his favorites in meatloaves that I make. Tastes even better the next day.

Rachel's Turkey Loaf

Reviewed: May 18, 2006
By far this is one of the best turkey loaf recipes. The others had no flavor. This loaf came out of the oven moist and light. It smells wonderful while cooking too. Using the turkey meat omitted the gristly or toughness that ground beef has sometimes. loved this recipe rachel, thanks a bunch!

Southern Candied Sweet Potatoes

Reviewed: May 18, 2006
This turned out just as my motehr would make them on holidays. I didn't give it 5 stars because it isn't the supreme sweet potatoes that my grandmother makes. This is a great basic recipe and works well. If able to try adding the marshmallows and pecans topping.

Quick and Easy Alfredo Sauce

This was easy and flavorful! I wanted chicken alfredo and this was my firt attempt at making it. The sauce was velvetty and rich. I did used both fresh garlic and a little of garlic powder w/parsley. This recipe is a keeper and unbelievably easy. Thanks!!

Shepherd's Pie Complete

Reviewed: May 18, 2006
I'm not sure if it's the beef mixture or just the dish in it's entirety. I made this as a "hey I'm going to the store tomorrow, but I have the ingredients to make this today". I should've gone to Kroger's. This turned out a goopy mess for me. I used a jar gravy and things were just too salty, wet and the cheese helped to meld the dish together. Will not be served in this house again.

Grandma's Famous Salmon Cakes

This recipe turned out wonderful. This was just like me mother would make on Saturday mornings w/butter and sugared rice. I also added a touch of flour to the mix. Will keep this recipe on hand for later.

Fast and Friendly Meatballs

Reviewed: Apr. 26, 2006
I rated this a 5 because of the ease to make theses meatballs. I did add an envelope and 1/2 of another of Lipton Onion soup mix (garlic and herb- beefy onion would probably be great too). Otherwise this is just too bland. Turkey has WAY less flavor than beef. I also added 1/4 of finely chopped onion and 1 tsp of minced gaarlic in the mixx. Smells great while baking.

Becki's Oven Barbecue Chicken

Reviewed: Apr. 17, 2006
This recipe turned out wonderful. I did however increase the butterto 1/2 stick or 1/2 cup and sauteed 1/4 small onion finely sliced and 2 cloves of minced garlic, I then followed the rest of the recipe as written. Smells awesome while cooking.

Greek Spaghetti II

Reviewed: Apr. 5, 2006
This recipe came out wonderful!! I looked at the basic recipe and happened to have a bag of Sargento Bistro Cheese in the fridge (a blend of Asiago, Romano and Mozzerella). I did chop 2 cloves of garlic and sauteed them in the butter. I also coated the noodles in the butter sauce and made individual servings quite easily. I have a nephew who doesn't believe it's spaghetti unless it's red, I added spaghetti sauce to his in the layers and he nearly licked the bowl clean! This smelled great while cooking and paired well w/a ceasar salad and garlic bread. Will definately make again even when not in a pinch!

This is a strong macaroni and cheese dish. Very flavorful and slighty creamy. Definately worth the time it takes to properly prepare.

Melt In Your Mouth Pork Chops

Reviewed: Jul. 13, 2005
I had a feeling that a recipe rated this high, couldn't be wrong. The chops were excellent!!! I used cuts of pork loin about 3/4" thick and the meat was perfect!! Didn't have any of the dryness problems as a few reviewers got. I did add 1/4 cup of fresh pineapple juice and a squeeze of orange freshly cut in half. Not an unhappy stomach in the house. Way easy to prepare, this is a definate must try and add to the recipe books!!

Best Cocktail Meatballs

I just don't know where I went wrong with this recipe. It turned out WAY too sweet for my taste and I could swear that I'd tasted the ketchup. Others in the house said that they were good but not great like the reviewers noted. Might be worth trying again w/some minor tweaking.

Yum-Yum Corn

Reviewed: Jun. 11, 2005
My family LOVED this recipe. My mother asked for it once a week for 3 weeks in a row! I didn't add the parsley (out at the time)and I used jarred chopped garlic for lack of fresh, this was still a hit. I didn't really care for the cream cheese all that much but then again that's just me. Gave this a 4 only because I didn't care for this too much.

Emily's Manicotti

Reviewed: May 9, 2005
Emily hit the jackpot on this one!! Turned out fabulous. I do have to admit that I cheated and used mile italian sausage instead of just the plain pork. For future reference the noodles are NOT precooked. I did add 1/4 of the jar of sauce and about 6oz. of fresh ricotta cheese to the meat mixture before stuffing the shells. The addition of the bread crumbs wasn't really necessary so I cut the amount used in half. The sauce will cook the shells completely as lond as you keep the dish covered tightly. I hope others enjoy this recipe as much as we did. Also if looking for a real kick, add some pieces of chopped pepperoni to the dish...yummm :-)

Country Fried Steak and Milk Gravy

Reviewed: Apr. 16, 2005
This was so easy to make and delicious too!! I thought the pepper factor was fine, yet I added 1 tsp of onion flakes and 1/2 tsp of Lawry's seasoned salt. Otherwise the gravy was just bland but full of pepper. Received no complaints from boyfriend (always a sign of a keeper) and reheated well for lunch the next day. Would recommend giving this a try yet might want to cut back on the amount of pepper used depending on personal preference.

Chicken Fried Chicken

This was a great base for a chicken recipe. I dipped my chicken in a mixure of 1 egg and 1/2 cup of whole milk before coating w/cracker and flour mixture. I then let my checken rest for 1 minute before placing in the oil. All in all this recipe is a keeper.
