About this Cook
I started cooking as a child and my skills have evolved over the years. My cooking exploits have evolved over the years from traditional, midwestern family style (e.g. casseroles, high carb, kid-friendly foods, etc.) to more healthy and gourmet styles (e.g. fresh vegetables and fruits, lean protein, low fat dairy, minimal carbs, etc.).
My favorite things to cook
I love making up different kinds of salads, especially with greens. The best combinations include greens, fruit of some kind, nuts, scallions or green onions, cheese and some kind of vinagrette.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Traditional Thanksgiving dinners. It's my favorite holiday!
My cooking tragedies
I was very young and cooking my first Easter dinner after my daughter was born. I was trying to cook a boneless ham and I didn't realize it had a second paper wrapper on it...took me for EVER to figure out why the darned thing wasn't cooking in the oven!

Totally Groovy Chocolate Fondue
I get raves with this recipe! Can substitute almond extract and/or brand extract for the cherry brandy and instant coffee crystals for the coffee.

Pumpkin Bread
I've been making pumpkin bread for years, and this turned out to be a really good recipe. I was looking for an alternative to the traditional recipe which typically calls for 1 cup of oil. Next time I will cut down on the clove -- it is a bit overpowering and you can't taste the other spices (I prefer my pumpkin bread more "cinnamonie"). I added a mix of chocolate and butterscotch chips. Both were good, but next time I would add just one or the other.
