About this Cook
Hi. I'm a mommy of two who enjoys experimenting in the kitchen... I try to encourage some adventurous eating around here, but with kids that can be a challenge! I love being able to find recipes others have tried and loved, and even pick up a few pointers before I try it out on my own crew!
My favorite things to cook
Family recipes that are perennial favorites are always fun to cook. I also love the flavor of curry and have had fun experimenting with Indian recipes and more exotic combinations since discovering this wonderful spice!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Thanksgiving is my absolute favorite holiday. Each recipe has a memory attached to it, most of which are entwined deeply with specific relatives and friends who have taught me to cook along the way.
My cooking triumphs
Aside from the famous cranberry sauce which has become signature at every Thanksgiving gathering I have ever attended, and the famous sweet potato pudding, pumpkin and black bean soup, and my mother-in-laws outrageous pumpkin pies, my greatest triumphs have been in achieving gluten free baked goods that are actually delicious. Prior to the gluten-intolerant diagnosis, baked goods were my favorite, and some gluten free recipes/mixes leave a *lot* to be desired. But gradually, I'm experimenting, finding things that work, and every now and then, achieving real success! Nothing beats the kids' smiles when I do that!
My cooking tragedies
Well there is the matter of that pecan encrusted salmon... And many many *many* gluten-free flops... some that disintegrate, some you could drive spikes into a railroad with, some that could give super-glue a run for its money. You name it, we;ve done it. But my grandmother once told me "Never be afraid to experiment! You never know! It could turn out wonderful! And if it doesn't... you can always bury it in the flower bed!"

Hobo Stew
Wow, this brings back memories -- a classic from so many camping trips as a kid. We always added cubed cheese at the end. It isn't gourmet, and I'll never forget how entirely skeptical I was as a kid the first time this was on the camping menu -- but it was surprisingly good that time, and every time since. :) Maybe it's that campfire magic -- EVERYTHING cooked over a campfire tastes better, from the humble hotdog to Hobo Stew.

Award Winning Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies
Thank you for an amazing recipe! I know there are a million reviews for this recipe, but I had to add mine. See, we are a gluten-free household, and actually yummy baked goods are hard to come by. You'd be amazed how many gltuen free recipes people rave about that are dry, crumbly, too dense, etc. With our limitations, I have to experiment with recipes a lot -- my first attempt with this recipe was pretty good, but needed some tweaking... so I added the baking powder, salt, and extra vanilla recommended by another reviewer, and substituted applesauce for half the butter. I cannot believe how well they came out. Absolutely the best cookies I have ever made, with or without gluten. I used Jules Nearly Normal all-purpose flour mix, which I LOVE. I am so happy to have this recipe, and the kids are beyond happy! Thank you!

Easy Pavlova
This is so great! Light, airy, delish... and gluten free!!! My kids love it so much they've already requested a re-run, which I'm making today. Everyone requested the recipe. I filled mine with kiwi, strawberries, and oranges... so easy, so versatile, so perfectly summery! Thank you!
