OK, so I do my shopping once every two weeks.  The day (night) before I am usually scrambling around trying to plan out my menu and make my list.  I have a new challenge to add to my planning.  My husband is currently working about 3 1/2 hours away, so I am trying to make him… MORE

About this Cook
I am the wife of a military officer, so we've lived in Germany, Australia, and all over the U.S. I think my cooking reflects the places our travels have taken us.
My favorite things to cook
I most like making soups, but I also enjoy baking and making gourmet pizzas. I love trying new recipes and don't make something twice unless it is out of this world.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Growing up, my family always made frozen pizzas on Sunday nights. Now, I have that tradition with my own family, but we make our own, from the dough to our favorite combinations of toppings - traditional to unusual.
My cooking triumphs
I have found quite a few recipes that I can put together in a hurry, but still taste fabulous. I consider it a success if I like it (I like most anything) my husband likes it (he likes gourmet food and very flavorful/spicy food) and the kids like it (most kids seem to like the bland stuff).
My cooking tragedies
Soon after I was married I cooked a ragout from the Silver Palate cookbook. It was awful, and it seemed to last forever as we weren't about to throw it away and waste our hard earned money! We still joke about it.

Restaurant-Quality Baked Potato Soup
Very yummy soup. I used vegetable broth in place of the chicken broth to make it vegetarian. It was thick anc creamy and went over well with the three teenagers I made it for. I served it in bread bowls, and that made it extra nice.

Super Bowl Bread Bowls
This bread is delicious and worked wonderful for the baked potato soup I made. I made 5 bowls, rather than 6, and the size was nice. They got wider than they did taller, but still worked well. I should have spaced them out on two baking sheets, as they were too close together and "fused" at the sides. They still worked fine, but just weren't as pretty.

Sopapilla Cheesecake Pie
This lived up to its high ratings. I got lots of compliments, and it was so easy! I'll be making this again for sure.
