I'm engaged and will be married this December :) I am the mother of two children ages 6 and 8. I love to cook because it really makes me happy to bring a smile to my (future) husband and childrens faces. What makes people happier than a good meal?!
My favorite things to cook
My meatloaf is to die for! I also love to make appetizers since we get together with friends a lot. I have noticed that the older I'm getting the more my taste buds are changing. I am more willing to try a lot of different things now than I ever would have in the past.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom is a great baker. Every holiday we would make sugar cookie cut outs from scratch and then decorate them. We would give them to our teachers, friends, family, and neighbors. I used to love doing that with my mom as a kid.
My cooking triumphs
Again, we go back to the meatloaf. I had tried different recipes before but was never satisfied. I knew what I wanted in a meatloaf but could never find the perfect recipe. Until one day it crossed my mind that I didn't have to follow a certain recipe, I could do whatever I wanted. It turned out perfect the first time I made it and my husband says it's the best he's ever had.
My cooking tragedies
I tried to make a berry cheesecake one time with frozen berries. I left the bag on the counter to unthaw for a couple of hours. When it was time to put the berries on top of the cheesecake I opened up the bag and poured them on top. What I got was a big 'ol soggy mess. Guess someone forgot to tell me that you should strain the juices from the berries before putting them on the cheesecake!
