About this Cook
I am a 29-year-old newlywed recently transplanted to New Hampshire from Ottawa, Ontario. I was most recently employed as a personal trainer but am returning to my first love, writing. I have recently renewed a dormant interest in cooking and baking and am having fun exploring new tastes and recipes. I'm always on the lookout for dishes that might appeal to my husband's very picky palate!
My favorite things to cook
Breads/biscuits, sweets, appetizers, breakfast dishes
My favorite family cooking traditions
Rappie pie -- a French Acadian dish native to Canada's Maritime provinces, and mainly southwestern Nova Scotia. It's a baked dish of grated potato and meat -- usually chicken, though clams, pork and even rabbit are used. The most popular condiments used on rappie pie are butter and/or molasses. Another highlight is my mom's lobster chowder.
My cooking triumphs
I make a mean biscuit!
My cooking tragedies
I once accidentally mixed the sauce ingredients for a batch of meatballs in with the meatball mixture itself, then tried to salvage it as a meatloaf. The result was a wet, sickly sweet mess.

Donna's Lasagna
Delicious -- this will be my go-to lasagna recipe! Because I only had one 6 oz. can of tomato paste, I used 6 oz. tomato sauce as a substitute for the second, which worked out great. The meat mix was a little too thick for my liking so I added a bit more of the pureed tomato and tomato sauce with another 1/2 tsp. or so of sugar to balance out the extra tomato flavor.

Easy Vegetarian Corn Chowder
Absolutely delicious. I add potatoes (pre-cooked) and use chicken broth rather than vegetable, since that's what I tend to have on hand.

Chocolate-Zucchini Cupcakes
Quite good but I think they would be better if they were more chocolatey (a la Devil's Food Cake).
