Peach Cobbler I

Reviewed: Oct. 4, 2009
WAY TOO SWEET!!! I was hoping this was going to be a wonderful hybrid between bread pudding and fruit cobbler and it ended up being a gross hybrid of both. I tossed it in the garbage. If you do try it- cut the sugar WAY back- to maybe 1/2 cup.

Blueberry Crisp II

Reviewed: Jul. 6, 2009
For a super quick dessert that doesnt use eggs, milk, or butter- this isnt bad. But... its not the best either. I am not sure why it had such great ratings. To me, this is more of an "just ok" cobbler and not a crisp. I used fresh mixed berries from the farmers market and they saved the dessert. I followed the recipe exactly but doubled it because i had a ton of berries- i also cooked it in a 9x13 pan. I also used low fat mayo (maybe this was the problem??). The topping just sort of stayed doughy and never really crisped up. It was sort of like eating dough balls on the top of really good berries. I think there are better recipes out there for crisps and cobblers and will keep searching....

Strawberry Bread

Reviewed: Jun. 23, 2009
YUMMY!! I made this bread with our local Oregon strawberries and it turned out SO good. I did make it a bit healthier- i used half whole wheat flour and applesauce for half the oil. I also only added 1 1/2 cups of sugar instead of the 2 cups- the strawberries were plenty sweet as was the applesauce. Anyway- fantastic bread- I will make it again!!

Bake Sale Lemon Bars

Like so many others, i used gourmetmommy suggestions and doubled the flour, eggs and increased the lemon to 1 cup and upped the sugar just a bit... they came out great! I dont like my lemon bars super sweet, so for me, this is THE recipe!

Super-Delicious Zuppa Toscana

This made a good soup... its very rich, so beware! I pretty much followed the recipe but used half and half instead of the heavy cream and kale instead of spinach because i think it holds up better in soup.

Janet's Rich Banana Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 25, 2009
This bread is TOP NOTCH! I made it a bit healthier by using 1/2 whole wheat flour and half unbleached all purpose, I reduced the sugar to 3/4 of a cup (used half white sugar and half brown) and subbed half apple sauce/ half butter. I also used low fat sour cream. I added a bit of cinnamon too- just because i love cinnamon. Even with all these changes- this bread is great, moist, not too sweet, great flavor and i made it much healthier! Thanks for a great recipe...

Kettle Corn

I used brown sugar and mine had a mild burned taste to it. I shook it constantly as directed but for some reason mine still burned- I will try this again however, because the recipe is worth perfecting. Next time i will lower the heat just a tad.... oh yeah- i did add just a bit of salt to it.

Cranberry Upside-Down Coffee Cake

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2008
This is an AWESOME recipe!!! I did make one change, which i think is key- i added the zest of one orange and squeezed 2 or 3 tablespoons of the juice to the batter. It made the cake have a slight orange flavor- it was a great compliment to the cranberries. I will make this again and again. Thanks for sharing.

Beefy Mushroom Barley Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2008
I changed this recipe a bit but it turned out awesome so i am giving it 5 stars. First, i used better then bouillon instead of cubes because i think it has more depth of flavor then the cubes. I also used 1 cup of pearl barley so my soup was thick and i didnt use the sour cream because i didnt think it needed it. I served this with home made baking powder biscuits from this site as well- YUM!!!

Baking Powder Biscuits I

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2008
Excellent Recipe- My new go to recipe for quick baking powder biscuits. I only changed one thing- i used butter since i stay away from shortening. I turned down the oven temp by 25 degrees and i made 6 large biscuits instead of 12 little ones. Thanks for the great recipe.

Pear Bread II

Reviewed: Nov. 18, 2008
This is very good bread. I subbed 1/2 cup of applesauce for half the oil and i also cut the sugar by a half a cup. I used one cup brown sugar and a half white. I also would have used half whole wheat flour but i forgot!! Next time, i will add the flour because after tasting this bread with all white flour, it can totally handle it!!!

Blackberry Cobbler

Reviewed: Aug. 21, 2008
This is the strangest cobbler i have ever made! At first i thought i had made a mistake because the better is soooo runny. But it all cooked up ok- sort of... The taste of this cobbler is really good- however, the texture is a bit strange. It is sort of half way between a coffee cake and a cobbler. I can see why others thought it was gummy. My blackberries didnt sink either- they sort of stayed on top and the cobbler baked on the bottom. Over all, i would probably make this again if i was in a lazy mood and wanted an easy recipe. Oh yeah- i did add cinnamon and a bit of vanilla to the recipe and also used one cup on blueberries with my blackberries.

Mom's Zucchini Bread

Reviewed: Aug. 9, 2008
AWESOME!!! I made just a couple changes to make it a little healthier. I used 1 cup of brown sugar and 1 cup of white. I also used one cup of whole wheat flour and used apple sauce in place of half the oil and added a bit of freshly grated nutmeg to the mix. This is my new recipe for zucchini bread- thank you for sharing! :) Oh yea, i left out the nuts as my husband doesn't like them.

Southern Peach Cobbler

Reviewed: Jul. 31, 2008
I know this is an awesome recipe because i totally messed up the recipe and it still came out awesome. I accidentally started to make another peach cobbler recipe before i caught my mistake and had to improvise- i ended up cooking the peaches on the stove instead of in the oven and then pouring them into the pan and then following the rest of the directions. I also used an entire cup of sugar in the cooked peaches (the other recipe called for a cup of sugar-)- so mine came out sweet and of course i will next time follow the direction of THIS recipe!!! Otherwise, great recipe and i enjoyed it!!

To Die For Blueberry Muffins

Reviewed: Jul. 2, 2008
These muffins tasted pretty good but they made a huge mess in the pan because i followed the directions and filled them to the top. I will make these again and fill them only about 3/4 full. I did get 8 muffins out of the recipe and used a #12 scoop to put them in the pan. I also did like others suggested and added vanilla. Lemon zest would also be a great addition!!

The Best Banana Bread

Reviewed: Jun. 3, 2008
This is a very good basic banana bread recipe. What i like about it is that its so easy to add different flavors. Tonight I added vanilla, cinnamon and a bit of freshly grated nutmeg. I also used half white, half brown sugar. I did not bake a loaf but instead made muffins and they turned out wonderful.
