I am a 28 year old mother of two who is a passionate cook. I buy into Emeril's motto (not "Pork fat rules"!) that "It's a food of love thing", because I put love into everything I cook, and judging by the responses I receive from anyone who partakes of my food, it shows!
I am also a grass-roots caterer, just getting my foot in the door, but I know that when my catering business, Shekinah Glory Catering Co., takes off, it will TAKE OFF.......
My favorite things to cook
I love cooking Soul/Southern cuisine with a gourmet flair, Chinese, Mexican and any other type of food that happens to fit my or that of those that I am feeding's fancy.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Waiting until the night before Thanksgiving, Christmas or any big cooking holiday and preparing my food. I don't know what it is about it, but I just love doing the 'last minute thing'! Then I cannot forget baking with my children. They are developing the same love for cooking that their mother has.
My cooking triumphs
Turning a sworn hater of salmon croquettes to a lover of the same...now he won't touch any one else's but mine! Also, convincing someone who does not eat pasta to try my Vermicelli Chicken bake and now they love it. Or making a Rum cake for my mother who thorougly enjoyed it-and before she said she hated Rum cake and would never enjoy it! (Or so she thought).
My cooking tragedies
I can honestly say that I have not had many cooking tragedies, because I always find that what one person may not care for may be something that another loves. If I have to say one, I would say about 8 years ago on the 4th of July I was making this big dinner for my boyfriend at the time and I put too much milk and not enough egg in the macaroni and cheese and no matter how long I baked it, the juice would not evaporate. I was never even able to drain it all off! Then there was the time (the last time) that I burnt 2 slabs of ribs on a gas grill. I no longer use gas grills. Give me my charcoal any day!
