About this Cook
I am a full-time college student majoring in Journalism. I've been married since 2003 to the man of my dreams (he admitted to me that a way to a man's heart really is through his stomach, so I must be doing something right!!!)! No kids yet, but I am the proud 'mom' to a miniature schnauzer and 2 parakeets. :) I am very interested in cake decorating and just purchased a set of tools to help me practice. If anyone out there has a love for cake decorating, please connect with me!
My favorite things to cook
I've been a casserole fiend ever since I can remember! I also love cooking Italian and old family recipes. Baking cakes and cookies is also something that brings me a lot of joy.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I love my mom's homemade noodles - no written recipe - simply passed down from her mother, her grandmother, etc. It seems that not many in Texas know exactly what homemade noodles are (they often think I am talking about regular pasta)...my family is originally from the midwest (I'm the only true Texan in the bunch!) and homemade noodles seem to be a staple up there. One of my other family favorites is round steak with gravy & mashed potatoes. I think making that dish for my husband while we were dating sealed the deal for marriage! Other favorites are homemade lasagna and mac & cheese! All simple yet very satisfying comfort foods!!!
My cooking triumphs
The presentation of a meal (any course) is very important to me, so when I can display an attractive dish - whether it's for my husband or for an entire group - I am very proud. :)
My cooking tragedies
I've been known to burn a few things, overcook chicken, etc. I can't think of any specific instances off-hand, but when these things happen, I do have a good sense of humor and am able to let it roll off. I try not to take myself too seriously in the kitchen.

Seven Layer Dip I
I made this for New Year's Eve and it was a big hit! I made a few changes to the original recipe: I added a packet of taco seasoning to the hamburger as I browned it. I nixed the salsa, although I think I will add that the next time. I also recommend using homemade guac or doctor up the store brand - I used spicy Wholly Guacamole, but I think the store-bought guac was lacking something, so I'll be making it homemade next time. I layered everything into a trifle dish and it looked really pretty - beans first, ending with the sour cream layer on top, garnished with the cheese and olives. Thanks for sharing this terrific recipe - it's extremely versatile and I will definitely be making it again! :)

The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies
I made these cookies today - delicious recipe! Very easy prep. I put the dough in the fridge to chill overnight - if you do this, remember to let the dough sit at room temp for about 30 minutes before you start rolling it out, otherwise it's rock hard. I will definitely make these again. Makes a ton of cookies, so make sure you have people to give them to - I'm sure they'll keep in the freezer as well.
