About this Cook
I am married, have two grown children, and am a grandmother with another grandchild on the way. I am also a special education teacher. I have had a gastric by-pass and am looking for new family favorites, as well as dishes for entertaining.
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake - just about anything. I also love to try new recipes and look for those that have a pleasant appearance as well as great taste. I am learning to look for new favorites for meals.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Baking - especially pies, breads, and cookies. These were my earliest cooking experiences and are still my favorite.
My cooking triumphs
My favorite meal memory was my oldest son's Confirmation Dinner; baked ham with orange glaze, boiled red potatoes, peas, and carrot cake with a glaze.
My cooking tragedies
The first pies I made without my mother's supervision were sour cherry, (picked from our own cherry trees!). I forgot to put sugar in them - 6 pies were thrown in the trash!

Split Pea Soup
I used this recipe as a base, but made a few changes along the way. I used chicken broth for the water and used the 2 minute method to soak the peas. I then put all the vegetables in, as well as cubed ham, and used thyme of the recommended spice. It wasn't very thick at first, but thickened as it cooled. Was great the next day, too. Try this soup. It is great!

Chocolate Snowballs
These cookies pack a powerful taste of chocolate. I made two different sizes - the smaller ones are definitely the right size. I will make these again and again.
