Garlic Chicken Stir Fry

Reviewed: Sep. 10, 2006
This recipe is more soupy and bland than I had expected. It's not real stir-fry, but it's a good start for people who like to tone down their Chinese food. I'm actually Chinese, and this tastes nothing like the stir-fry my Mom used to make or anything that is served in good Chinese restaurants. Not that the recipe isn't good, just not what I expected for stir-fry. Very easy to make though.

Paella

Reviewed: Aug. 12, 2006
Good solid recipe for paella, relatively easy to make. I took the previous poster's advice and made the rice seperately, and then added about half the chicken broth so it wouldn't be too soupy since the rice is pre-cooked. The result is yummy, but didn't bring out any extraodinary flavors.

Lamb Feta Peppers

Reviewed: Apr. 23, 2006
For some weird reason, even though I live in Astoria, the mini-Greektown of NYC, I could not for the life of me find ground lamb!! I went to 2 butcher shops and 2 supermarkets. Sigh. I substituted ground veal instead since it has about the same cooking temp as lamb. Very tasty and fun to make recipe! I used imported feta and it tasted delicious in the stuffing. The stuffing was a little too soggy for my liking, but the flavor was still very good. Where did you people who used ground lamb find it? Do you have meat grinders?

Coconut Curry Fish

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2006
Very quick and easy recipe to make, and a good fish recipe for people who don't like to eat fish. But overall, lacking in flavor. I would definitely suggest adding more of the spices since the dish comes out tasting quite bland. The fish tasted good since it was cooked with the spices, but the sauce and vegetables didn't have much taste.

Fra Diavolo Sauce With Pasta

Reviewed: Feb. 4, 2006
Very simple and delicious recipe. The tomato sauce is really what makes it and gives the rest of the dish its zing. I added double the scallops but it still wasn't enough for all the pasta so next time I don't think I'll cook so much pasta as the recipe says.

Beef and Barley Soup III

Reviewed: Jan. 29, 2006
Great recipe, although some proofreading from the submitter would have been a good idea. The ingredients list is missing the BAY LEAF and the directions is missing the GARLIC. I forgot the garlic and it tasted fine. I would recommend a bit more beef stock since the soup turns out very chunky. You don't really need to add salt if you get regular not low-sodium beef broth. Overall great classic recipe.

Fish Chowder

Great recipe, very simple to make. I added sweet corn; it tasted great and gave the soup added texture. Served it with some warm french bread and it made a very satisfying meal.

Decorator Frosting

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2006
Great recipe. It was pretty easy to make and the consistency was great. The frosting spread easily on my cookies and turned a bit harder when they dried but just enough to hold my decorations together.

Great recipe! Made them for my co-workers and they loved the taste and raved about how they weren't too sweet or hard like other gingerbread cookies.

Curried Chicken and Potatoes

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2006
Pretty solid recipe. The chicken and potatoes definitely soaked up all the spices and they tasted great. The sauce could have been thicker and more flavorful but overall a simple and tasty recipe.

Oven Roasted Potatoes

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2005
I agree with the previous reviewer that the oven temperature is a bit too high. Next time I make these, I'm going to try 425 or a bit lower. The potatoes cooked pretty fast (I used red potatoes). The recipe is really great though! Everything that I could want from roasted potatoes. And they weren't too dry either. Great side dish!

Broiled Tilapia Parmesan

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2005
Delicious recipe! Very easy to make, although it required a bit of attentive monitoring/timing. The fish came out very tender and juicy and the parmesan (I used the shredded kind) added texture to the fish. I served it with roasted herbed potatoes and it made for a very satisfying meal.

Beef Enchiladas I

Yummy recipe! Fun too, I liked filling the enchiladas. I substituted flour tortillas for corn tortillas and canned jalapeno peppers instead of chile peppers.

Pasta with Scallops, Zucchini, and Tomatoes

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2005
Great recipe! Sauce was a bit runny but was very yummy. Glad I added some white wine as per one of the reviewers. Fresh scallops are a necessity, don't get the frozen kind! Overall, yummy recipe for both seafood lovers and non-seafood lovers as well.

Thai Coconut Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2005
I agree with "KANDIYOHIV," this recipe is incredibly bland. Maybe I'm just used to eating more Thai dishes because I live in NYC and there are lots of great Thai restuarants, but this is NOT how Thai food should taste. There was no flavor in the broth other than a light hint of curry powder from the chicken. The veggies didn't have any flavor to soak up so they didn't taste like anything. Overall, very bland, but if you don't usually eat flavorful Thai food maybe this recipe is for you. Is it very simple to make so that's why it gets 2 stars instead of 1.

Beef Stew VI

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2005
Great recipe! Very easy to make and doesn't take a lot of worrying about, I watched a movie while it was cooking. I don't have a slow cooker but this stovetop recipe is just as good and the beef is tender and full of flavor. The vegetables were good too, picking up the flavor of the beef broth. I served this with biscuits and it made a great meal.

Dijon-Tarragon Cream Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2005
Pretty good recipe. The sauce was very mustard-ey even with the cream, and it didn't really cook into the chicken so it left the inner meat kind of bland. But I cooked some asparagus with the dish and put that into the pan to simmer a bit with the chicken and sauce and that was the best part of the meal. The sauce tasted really really good on the asparagus.

Rosemary Chicken with Orange-Maple Glaze

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2005
This recipe is pretty good. Very easy to make, and the flavor is very light/subtle, not overpowering, but good. The chicken breasts turned out very moist, but that was probably due to the very liquid-ey sauce. I added some cornstarch like some of the other reviewers suggested but it didn't work to thicken it. Even though I would have liked to have some thick sauce to put on the chicken it was okay without it. I let the chicken bask in the rosemary, salt and pepper for an hour or so and that turned out great, since I like rossemary on chicken. Served it with some brown rice pilaf and broccoli. Yum.
