I share a house with my sister. She is disabled and stays home with our princess dog, Lucy, a Shih-Tzu. I am actively involved in our church with a bible school dept. chairperson, our ladies retreat, praise team, our bible action play in the early summer, small group hosts, all kinds of things. I work full-time at our church Learning Center as a teacher/assistant director.
My favorite things to cook
I love to entertain! My favorite time to cook is Thanksgiving. I love the baking, cooking, preparing, everything! I host a small group after church on Sundays for lunch so we all take our turn at bring a main dish but during the other weeks, we bring side dishes and desserts.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Thanksgiving has been at our house for the last four years. Christmas time is spent with our family in Peoria, IL. We usually celebrate Christmas on the day after (26th) and we eat all day! We have a huge breakfast and then snack on appetizers and finger desserts.
My cooking triumphs
My first Thanksgiving meal I was in charge of about seven years ago. We had everyone at our apartment at the time (about 15 of us in a two bedroom apartment). We shopped on Wednesday and we started about 7 am with cooking after breakfast. We had a great time working together. I wanted to eat by 2 o'clock in the afternoon. We got to eat by 3-ish. Oh yeah, I cooked my ham and turkey in Nescos outside on the patio.
My cooking tragedies
I tried several months ago to make ciabatta rolls. They were not very good! Several years ago, I tried making bagettes. They were terrible! No flavor and very hard (I know that they are supposed to be crusty but not hard as in a hard tack!) It was waste of good yeast. I'm not sure what went wrong.
