My favorite things to cook
Anything easy and healthy, with ingredients readily available. This "cook" is NOT gourmet!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Roast turkey & all the fixings on holidays. Ditto pies: fruit or pudding pie, "pumpkin" pie made with butternut squash. Homemade bread and rolls. Homemade soups: split pea, black bean, vegetable. Breakfast for dinner.
My cooking triumphs
Delicious soups of all kinds made from scratch. Successfully canning and freezing garden produce. Wonderful breads of all kinds, both everyday and holiday. We had a sourdough starter that we used for 20+ years, and now use a quick & easy bread machine. (Kinda miss the kneading, though.)
My cooking tragedies
Trying new recipes for company! When we were in Japan, the captain of my husband's ship came for dinner and I served an ice cream dessert that was not only inedible, it was hard as a rock. Haven't learned my lesson yet; I still fix new stuff for company, with mixed results, mostly bad.
