My favorite things to cook
Anything TASTY! I really love trying new recipes, which is why I love this site!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My whole family loves pie, so for birthdays we'd always ask my mom to make us a pie instead of cake. My favorite is lemon meringue, mmmm! Another fun cooking tradition is, of course, all the holiday goodies my mom would make us. We'd have hundreds of cookies and fudge and sweet breads just waiting for us to taste. I guess you can tell by this that I have a bit of a sweet tooth!:)
My cooking triumphs
Without any official training, I have a knack for creating recipes that are crowd pleasers. The problem is that I never measure or write down the recipe as I make it and when someone comes back to me wanting the recipe, I can never tell them. My extended family and husband especially urge me to keep a notebook nearby while I am cooking so I can later re-create their favorites.
My cooking tragedies
When I was 14 my mom, sisters and I were making a pepperoni pizza for dinner. We put it in the oven and totally forgot it was in there and left to go run errands. After a few hours we came home and couldn't believe our eyes because all we could see was thick black smoke through the windows and billowing out the front door! My dad had come home a little before us and thought the house was on fire with all of us inside, so after several trips in and out of the house checking in bedrooms for bodies and going back out to get air, he realized there was no fire and thought maybe it was from the oven....and so there on the lawn lay our completely charcoaled pizza with perfectly roung little charcoal pepperoni! Our house had serious smoke damage and it took several months and lots of paint and elbow grease before things didn't stink like campfire anymore! :)
