I'm 28 years old and live on the Air Force base in Mountain Home, Idaho. The town is small and limited to the types of restaurants available so I've had to update alot of my recipes and add more ideas to my recipe library so that we're not always eating the sames things. I love to try recipes that have ingredients readily available to me in a small town but I'm pretty open to trying new things.
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook Mexican and Italian food. Anything American that is quick and easy I'm a huge fan of. I'm not one for out of the ordinary ingredients, fancy plating designs or anything too extremely complicated. I'm a fairly accomplished baker but tend to not have enough time to do much of it. This year was the first I've attempted my mother's chocolate peppermint log for Christmas. I never realized how involved they were!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Last year my group of friends and I started to have our own food battles, kind of like Iron Chef. We've had 3 so far and each time it's been nothing but fun and really good food. We're looking at planning the next one sometime soon and I can't wait to see what kind of food we come up with this time :)
My cooking triumphs
Making a risotto recipe I found off All Recipes. My husband was stationed in Italy for 2 years with the Air Force and is a huge fan of risotto. When I cooked it for him he said it was just like what he'd had in Italy. We use that as our special occasion meal when we want to have something nice for just the two of us.
My cooking tragedies
No real tragedies so far thank goodness! My only pitfall is my slow cooker. I am constantly misjudging time needed and temperature so that's always a work in progress.
