Chocolate Crinkles II

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2009
Hands down favorite cookie recipe. The kids can't wait for the Christmas season, when we make these. I just dampen the palms of my hands ever so slightly and don't have a problem with sticky dough.

The Attention-Hungry Turkey of Moistness

Reviewed: Nov. 21, 2009
Too much work for too little return. Tried this a couple of weeks ago and wasnt any more moist. Tenting the turkey and basting a couple of times, or cooking it breast side down will give the same results and frustrate the cook less and take less time.

Cole Slaw

I added celery seed and cut the oil by half. Good stuff; definitely will put this in the recipe book and use often.

Poppy Seed Chicken II

Reviewed: Jul. 28, 2009
Great comfort food. I serve over noodles. I generally don't have leftover chicken so I just brown up some of those flash frozen tenderloins. I season them with a bit of garlic salt, poultry seasoning and pepper and cut them into bitesized pieces when they're done cooking.

Chow Mein Noodle Casserole

Reviewed: Jul. 27, 2009
My mom used to make this - probably one of my favorite meals. I have varied it by omitting the onions/celery/almonds and substituting a can of chinese vegetables. Either way, if I need a comfort food, this tops my list.

BBQ Pork for Sandwiches

Reviewed: Jun. 27, 2009
Added red pepper flakes, a clove of garlic. I go alittle bit light on the bbq sauce and then serve some on the side for those who like a very "saucy" sandwich. Cole slaw is a MUST with pulled pork - here in Maryland it's generally put right on the sandwich. This recipe was great!

Mom's Best Macaroni Salad

Reviewed: May 24, 2009
This was like a deli Amish macaroni salad to me. I cut the sugar in half and was kind of freaked at how sweet the dressing was but once it sat overnight (as recommended in the recipe) it all mellowed into a delicious macaroni salad. My only adjustment other than cutting the sugar was to add celery seed. Definitely worth trying!

German Sweet Chocolate Pie

A new favorite! A nice rich deep flavor without being too sweet. I saved some chocolate to make chocolate curls on top. The hazelnut creamer sounds like a great idea - I may try that next.

Korean BBQ Short Ribs (Gal-Bi)

Reviewed: Jun. 25, 2008
Delicious flavor. I think if you don't use the flanken short ribs, these need to be cooked for a very long time either in a slow cooker, low oven or slowly on the stovetop to make these less fatty and tenderize them a bit. Next time, I'll be sure we use the flanken cut ribs. Definitely will be using this recipe a lot.

Watermelon Summer Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 21, 2008
Love this! We're not mint lovers so we cut back on the mint. Next time, I'll probably just leave it out, but that's a personal preference. Others at our picnic loved it the way it was. A definite keeper. Will make often

Tuna Casserole III

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2008
I grew up eating this casserole just about every week. My mother added a half a can of milk so that it was not dry and added some black pepper (as do I). I agree wholeheartedly with the previous reviewer - this is not a tuna noodle casserole - adding pasta makes it a different dish. I never knew that there was a thing called a tuna noodle casserole until I moved away from home.

All American Roast Beef

Reviewed: Sep. 11, 2007
This was wonderful. Please don't pass this up because of reviews saying cooking this way will result in a tough dinner - they surely didn't try it. As others have suggested, make sure your oven temp is accurate, a meat thermometer is a plus and the REAL secret is allowing the meat to rest, covered, for 15 or so minutes while you prepare the rest of your meal. (take the meat out before it reaches the desired temperature, as it cooks a bit more while it rests) Eye of round is a nice lean cut of meat - and it does NOT benefit from boiling it as some would suggest. You will not get a fall apart shreddy kind of roast - this will be a nice moist firm roast that slices nicely, and there is no waste. Stick to the recipe, use the right cut of meat and follow the directions and you won't be disappointed. And you'll have flavorful juice all over your cutting board to moisten the meat after you cut it. I added a bit of thyme to the seasoning mix, as my family loves beef with thyme, but i would not suggest any liquids be added. YUM!!!

Easy and Delicious Chicken

Reviewed: Sep. 11, 2007
My family really disliked this - and they are not picky eaters. For me, it was too much work to be "easy" and not all that "delicious". It was unappealing to look at and the taste was odd. Slow cooking one of the easiest meats to cook (boneless skinless breasts) just doesn't make sense. I could have made something much more delicious in the time it took to prep this. Won't make this again.

Cheesy Onion Roll-Ups

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2005
These were great! I will add a bit of cumin or chili powder next time to add a bit more depth to the flavor. A big hit and I plan on putting them on the Christmas eve buffet as well. As far as the review saying the onion was overpowering, the name is Cheesy ONION Roll-ups - so the onion taste was to be expected.
