About this Cook
I'm a wife and mother of three (including twins). I am heavily involved with the moms of multiples club/support system here, and I love talking with new and expectant moms. I put together our club cookbook, and one of my favorite things is looking at recipes. I think I enjoy perusing recipes more than actual cooking! (ha ha) My mouth waters just thinking about my Grandma Blanchard's roast beef dinners with carrots and onions...plus her lumpy mashed potatoes with lumpy gravy, potato salad, pink salad, and cinnamon rolls. I miss her.
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake and "taste test" from start to finish! Back in my working-outside-the-home days, I used to try new recipes for bars, cookies, cake, etc and take them into work on Fridays. That way I got to try something new and yummy without having to eat the whole pan. :)
My favorite family cooking traditions
As a kid, our Sunday night "dinner" was always chocolate popcorn (a boiled chocolate mixture that was drizzled over popped corn - a recipe passed down through my mom's side of the family). On Christmas Eve we would set out tables in the living room and have kind of an appetizer/treat dinner. There would be snacky foods like chips & dip, crackers, and usually a cooked appetizer or two...plus Christmas cookies, fudge, and whatever else we would make for the holiday. For years every Christmas I would make Christmas Wreaths (recipe on this site) that I learned to make in my 3rd grade class.
My cooking triumphs
I felt so intimidated the first time I made lasagna - even though I wasn't making it for anyone but myself (turned out great, by the way). Christmas 2007 I made my first turkey, and it turned out picture perfect! Beautifully browned - like on the commercials. I even had to take a picture of it. A couple years ago I made a chocolate-covered-strawberries cake from scratch for my birthday (check out the photo). I love chocolate covered strawberries, and the cake was fabulous!
My cooking tragedies
I can't seem to get the hang of homemade rolls.

Twice-Baked Mashed Potatoes
I made these for Christmas dinner and they were so delish! I mashed the potatoes with milk and a full stick of butter. I also added several cloves of minced fresh garlic. Yum!

The Perfect Sunday Brunch Spinach Salad
Delicious! It makes a TON, however! I cut the recipe in half for our 9 adult Thanksgiving dinner and there was still a little left over. Also - cut down a bit on the dressing. I think if using the amount listed it will be really too much. Thanks for the recipe!!!

Chex(R) Apple Pie Snack Mix
Yum! The only thing I didn't do was add walnuts. I didn't think alot of the dried apples, either. The ones I had were rather chewy so next time I'll leave those out, too. Otherwise, yum!
