About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
I have mastered the art of preparing wild game. My husband and sons see to it that I get plenty of game to prepare. They like my wild game dinners the best and always want to invite their friends over to see how great game can be when prepared like "my mom" makes it.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I like to stick to traditional fare most of time but I also enjoy trying gourmet meals for the holidays. I like to try new things often too for variety. I tend to make German dishes as we are of German heritage on both sides of our families.
My cooking triumphs
My husband & sons are avid hunters and one year they had gotten so many rabbits that I just did'nt know what to do with them. I would always prepare a small game dinner for the men the nite before opening day of buck season. This particular year it was not feasable to make that many rabbits the usual way so I decided to try something a bit different. I made the rabbit into boneless strips and made a sweet sour dipping sause. They were so taken with these that they will now only eat rabbit prepared as "Mom's rabbit McNuggets"
My cooking tragedies
I was only 18 when I got married and thought I knew everything! I decided to make a special dinner one day by mixing up a meatloaf and placing the mixture in my cupcake pan and topped it with tomatoe paste before baking. I called my creation "hamburger cupcakes" They were horrible. My next disaster was trying roast a wild rabbit that my brother in law gave us. I stuffed it like a turkey and roasted it in the oven. It smelled great while it was roasting but I over estimated the cooking time and even my electric knife bounced off it when we tried to carve it! Then I tried a london broil. I stuck it in the broiler while we went for an hour walk to wait for it to cook. We returned to a smoke filled apartment and a lump of charcoal for dinner! After being married for 34+ years I think I have learned alot and have become an accomplished cook as I always get raves about my meals.

Comforting Cube Steaks
I tried this recipe even tho I did'nt have the exact ingredients. Even with my substitutions and eliminating the cajun seasoning since we don't care for it, these cubed steaks turned out great.I will use this recipe all the time when making cubed steaks. My substitutions were ginger ale with a bit of lemon juice.

Grilled Chicken Salad with Seasonal Fruit
This recipe was incredible!!!! My twist was using 3 small bags of salad greens and adding 2 small cans (drained) of mandarin oranges. I also marinated my chicken overnite in italian dressing before browning it in a pan with olive oil. My guests ate this as their main dish and devoured it minutes. Next time I'll double it. The dressing was perfect.

Grandmother's Buttermilk Cornbread
This is the ultimate cornbread recipe. Made it exactly as written. Don't need to change a thing. If the idea of buttermilk is a big turn off rest assured that you will not detect a drop of it. My mother hates buttermilk and she never knew I used it and she loved this cornbread. (I'll never tell either!)
