About this Cook
I'm stay at home mom. I come from a family who loves food (probably too much). I grew up working in my parents restaurants since I was 10. I love to use fresh local ingredients, and I'm not afraid to try new things. I'm also not opposed to time saving shortcuts here and there.
My favorite things to cook
Soups, simple pasta dishes, pastries and cookies.
My favorite family cooking traditions
We can't help but have a foodfest whenever we all get together. I love my mom and dad's cooking (except when dad is on a cajun jag) and I've made them teach me everything they know. I remember watching my mom decorate cakes when I was a kid and thinking to myself, some day I'm going to try that. They made it so easy for us to try new things in the kitchen.
My cooking triumphs
People at my church ask me what I've brought and they know to look for my big Tupperware That's-a-bowl for something good to eat. There's nothing special about me, I just like to make good food with quality ingredients and I'm not afraid to experiment. People ask me for my recipes all the time and I have to think hard before I write it down because I usually don't follow an exact recipe. I rarely make it the same way twice.
My cooking tragedies
A really terrible casserole for a potluck. They ate it, but I thought it was disgusting.

Beer-Batter Onion Rings
Great base batter. Added a bit more seasoning then called for. I was frustrated with handling the rings, and then had the brilliant idea to slice the last onion in wedges. The onion "petals" handled very nicely, held up better in the oil and were great for scooping up dipping sauce. I will use this recipe again.

White Bean Chicken Chili
Good base for white chili. Used ground turkey and browned w/onions & garlic before adding the rest. Used fresh tomatillos and simmered for a few extra minutes. Doubled the chilis for a little more kick. Drain the beans and the chili turns out less soupy. My family loved it.
