About this Cook
I started cooking about 5 months after we were married. My bride was cooking just mac & cheese and hot dogs. Thanksgiving was coming and I want homemade bread. "You want it, you make." I did and the kitchen became mine. Over the next 35 years I allowed myself to gain more than 100 pounds. April 2008 I started Weight Watchers. In 18 months I lost 88 pounds. My wife (same one) calls me a Weight Watchers zealot; I prefer the term "apostle." Since that time, I have become a runner (first 5k 65 of 353, 27:00), a biker (52 mile Tour du Port, Baltimore), swimmer (I can do a mile), and all around active guy ... I cannot sit still any more. No more lazy naps in front of the TV.
My favorite things to cook
I still love bread, cakes, cookies, etc but I am cooking almost none of those since I joined WW. Now I do salads, soups, poultry, and fish dishes. I have always loved the grill and now have two, one gas and one charcoal. I am trying to justify a wood fired grill, but ... I am always on the lookout for low points recipes, which is why AllRecipes.com is so useful; the nutritional information helps me to quickly analyze the points value. I can then adapt the recipe as I see fit to bring it into line with my points.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Over the years, my wife has learned to cook. She now puts on a fabulous spread at Christmas. My middle, teenage son has adopted my love of the grill and is becoming pretty good. Weight Watchers or not, I still have to feed the boys their favorites: pizza, spaghetti, cheese and Mac.
My cooking triumphs
September 2009, I struck a deal with my youngest teenager, who hates breakfast and is a D "student" ... eat breakfast for 21 days (21 days to a new habit), everyday. I would make it for him and not WW stuff. No Pop-Tarts, sugary cereals, or Hot Pockets. If his grades did not improve, I would leave him alone about breakfast. If they did improve, I would continue to make him breakfast. He thought he had a sure bet and it was. Either way he won. He is on his way to honor roll and says he needs breakfast everyday now.
My cooking tragedies
I cannot seem to get a complex breakfast to the table all at once and hot.

Clone of a Cinnabon
Wow, lower in calories and fat and higher in fiber. Still ... 525 vs 730 calories. Hmm. Half my daily calories vs two-thirds. BUt they are good.

Italian Sausage Soup
Terrific! I substituted half pound of Italian Turkey Sausage from Perdue and cut the beans in half. It staid within the WW points I allow for dinner. (Can't give points in this forum but let's just say I cut them by more than half.)

Gazpacho II
Loved this! And so did my guests, even my picky eater sons! Second time, I used V-8 in place of tomato juice for a little extra zing. Wow!!
