Norwegian Pfeffernerse

I absolutely love the texture that the bakers ammonia gives this cookie. They tasted like little puffs of sugar. I would add a generous amount, 1-3 tsp, of vanilla extract next time. Thanks for the post. It was fun to see what bakers ammonia can do to a cookie.

Butterfinger Chunkies

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2009
These are a bit on the sweet side but still a very good everyday cookie. I made them smaller than called for and am glad I did. I will make these again but will add a cup of chopped lightly salted nuts. I used a natural style peanut butter and the cookies were not oily and had good pb taste.

Candy Corn Bark

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2009
Like many others I too used craisins instead of raisins. I added 2 cups of salted almonds and just enough candy corn to give festive color to the mix. I purchased the last bag of Halloween Oreos in the store. It certainly could be made with regular Oreos as the cream filling doesn't really show once the white chocolate is added. Not my kind of treat, but the sweet/salty taste does keep you nibbling.

Zucchini Patties

Reviewed: Jul. 28, 2009
I added a bit of salt to the shredded zucchini put it in a stainer and let the moisture sweat-out. I used panko in place of flour and used 2 large cloves of garlic. I served this with salsa and we loved it.

Double Dare Peaches

Reviewed: Jul. 27, 2009
I expected more heat, the ice cream really reduced the burn factor. I would use a third habanero next time. My peaches were so juicy I had to adjust the cooking technique. After the peaches were cooked I pulled then out with a slotted spoon. I then continued to cook the syrup until it thickened. This topping would also be very good on a cream cheese stuffed French toast. I would keep the peppers at 2 if it is not being used with ice cream. Thanks Dave for the post!

Summer Berry Compote

The fennel was so subtle that it had more visual and textural impact than flavor. Still, a nice, simple, elegant way to serve fresh fruit.

Hazelnut Truffle Cupcakes

Reviewed: Jul. 21, 2009
Most of the hazelnut flavor in this cupcake comes from the Nutella® frosting. It is good, but I was disappointed that the cake itself did not have a stronger hazelnut presence. If you were to add more Frangelico liqueur the cake would be too sweet. I did place a small amount of batter in the tins before adding the candies. Next time I would simply fill the tins and push the candies into the batter. Thanks for sharing!

Spinach Salad With Berries and Curry Dressing

Reviewed: Jul. 15, 2009
This is a very nice spinach salad with just a hint of curry. The lack of oil in the dressing makes this a very low-cal salad.

Mocha Walnut Cookies

Reviewed: Jul. 14, 2009
This is a really nice mocha cookie where you can taste the coffee. I used unsalted butter and found the salt in the cookie noticeable. If I was using salted butter I would cut back on the amount of salt called for.

Double Delights

Reviewed: Jul. 10, 2009
This is a nice cookie that I like much better than the Half and Half Cookie on this site. I made this as a drop cookie. After chilling the dough, I used a cookie scoop to form balls. I chilled the balls and then cut them in half, placing one vanilla and one chocolate together. I mixed the dry ingredients in by hand so not to over-mix. The cookies did not go flat, and were perfectly baked at 10 min.

Quinoa Salad with Dried Fruit and Nuts

Reviewed: Jul. 8, 2009
I love the prominent flavor the sesame oil gives to this salad. The second flavor that comes to the palate is lemon. With the crunch of the celery, nuts, and sweetness of the fruit it makes a wonderful blend of flavors and textures. I did use craisins that I chopped, and I toasted the pecans. I had the leftovers for lunch and added grilled chicken strips and fresh blueberries. Fabulous salad that is very versatile. I will make this often. Thank you for sharing!

Jicama, Carrot, and Green Apple Slaw

Reviewed: Jun. 30, 2009
I like how light and healthy this salad is. For me it didn't have enough flavor so I added a lot more cilantro, lime juice and tossed in peanuts. I will make this again as a light lunch with my additions and some grilled chicken. This is a very big salad, more than 8 servings. Thank you for sharing.

Quinoa and Black Beans

This is a very easy and healthy dish. I thought it lacked flavor but that is easily remedied. Topped off with avocado, lime juice and a sprinkling of cheese it was enjoyed by all.

Crispy Edamame

Reviewed: Jun. 19, 2009
This was a tough one to rate. I had people who could not get enough and thought they were addictive and others who said they were just ok. I used a cajun spice for more flavor. They didn't crisp up like I had hoped. I think if I make them again I will bake for a longer time, adding the Parmesan cheese after they have gotten crisp.

Edamame Dip (Edamole)

Reviewed: Jun. 12, 2009
I liked that this recipe had some "heat" but the garlic was overwhelming. I added cilantro and lemon juice as the submitter suggested and it does help make this recipe work. I also liked that the dip is emulsified with water instead of oil. I will make this again but will cut the garlic in half. Thank you HFL for sharing.

Edamame and Avocado Spread

Reviewed: Jun. 12, 2009
This is a very nice mild hummus like spread. It was very good on a roasted pepper sandwich. I used half of the spread as a dip by adding smoked paprika and fresh chopped white onion and cilantro. This is so easy and versatile that I will definitely make it again.

Magic Wands

Reviewed: Mar. 12, 2009
Although I used white chocolate instead of frosting, I am still rating this. I used 6 oz of a good quality white chocolate. Painted it on the rod with a silicone brush. I then rolled the rods in sprinkles and edible sparkles. The sparkles didn't add that much to the overall look so I won't bother with them next time. They look great, are easy to make and the kids I served them to loved them. I got 29 wands using this method.

Quinoa with Sweet Potato and Mushrooms

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2009
I caramelized the onions which gave this dish a beautiful color and wonderful sweet flavor. Toasting the quinoa and nuts was also a nice touch. I thought there was plenty of cayenne pepper as written. I will definitely make this again. Thank you lep413 for sharing.
