As a young mother and wife I'm just beginning my journey of learning how to cook. Growing up I never showed much interest in cooking or baking but my mother was always busy in the kitchen. Now that I'm giving it a go for myself I'm surprising everyone, including myself, how much I did pick up form my mother. My husband is great and will try anything I give him, give me an honest assessment while being liberal with praise.
My favorite things to cook
I like to try out new dinner recipes that hopefully one day will be my tried and true recipes. I like experimenting with new ingredients and techniques. I especially like trying things that are considered the staples in other cultures but aren't as well known to myself. Oh, and anything sweet! If it's for desert, I want to try and make it!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mother is the best baker I know. She would always have fresh goodies for us. She didn't need a holiday to put some TLC into a recipe that would make us feel like it was made just for us, and I try to do the same.
My cooking triumphs
Fish sauce! It smells, well fishy, and at first I had no idea how to use. Now, it is that special ingredient in a lot of my stir fries that make them really delicious.
My cooking tragedies
I'd say less than half of the new things I try turn out any good. That is ok though! For every few meals that we might have had to have a bowl of cereal afterwards to fill us up, there's a dish that I discover that is fabulous.
