Me posing as a dental student
About this Cook
I am a wife and a full-time dental student.
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook just about anything. I love cooking with fresh ingredients and experimenting with spices.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I grew up in a family with a varied national backgrounds. My grandma Bonny and the other women of the family used to cook Lefse for every Christmas. My father still has the Saturday morning tradition of making Swedish pancakes. Yum! My in-laws are the best soul food cooks, so I've been learning that style of cooking as well (but trying to make some of it healthier as well).
My cooking triumphs
I'd say having my husband compliment my cooking is a big triumph as well as when his mom--my mother-in-law asks for my recipes. I like being known as a consistent and good cook.
My cooking tragedies
I don't think I have too many tragedies. I do remember one, though. I had marinated some beautiful salmon filets for several hours and planned a nice meal around them. I grilled the fish on the grill on some "dollar store" foil that my husband decided to buy instead of my regular Reynolds Heavy Duty foil. The fish looked nice, but it had a very metallic disgusting flavor. We had to throw it out and find something else for dinner.

Tahini Cookies
I halved the recipe, but added extra cinnamon and a little nutmeg. I also used raisins rather than walnuts. When I baked them as directed, they burnt quickly on the bottoms and were undercooked in the centers. I'm not sure what happened there. Of the parts of the cookie that I could salvage, the flavor was ok. Not super great, but not bad either.

Mexican Corn
Neither me nor my husband was a big fan of this dish. It just wasn't a good combination in my opinion.

Grilled Sweet Potatoes with Apples
Wonderful change from whipped sweet potatoes and marshmellows! I made this for my in-laws; I got so many compliments on them. I added a little brown sugar to the mix as well.
