Ruth's Grandma's Pie Crust

This is the greatest crust recipe EVER!! It always turns out beautifully. I normally use butter flavor shortening and it's even better. So flakey and tender.

Really really good. I even got compliments from my 11 year old. I wanted something a little different than my every weekend pancake recipe. I added a touch of vanilla too. I ended up having to double the recipe and there were only 2 pancakes left.

Pioneer Cut Dumplings from the 1800's

These are the same dumplings I grew up on at Baptist potluck dinners. It was a total taste from my childhood. I've tried a ton of different dumpling recipes and could never get just the right texture.

Pizza Dip

This disappeared so quickly it was amazing! I served it with toasted baguette slices and there was barely any left when I went back to get 2nds. Husband said it was a total 5 star. Next time I think I'll add some red pepper flakes to spice it up a bit.

Frosted Nutmeg Logs

These were easy to make and the kids like them. I think they are okay. I used freshly grated nutmeg and only used about 3/4 tsp of nutmeg and it was still somewhat overpowering.

North Italian Meat Sauce (Ragu Bolognese)

This was good and definately reminded us of the amazing bolognese sauce we had in Bologna, Italy this summer. I made the mistake of omitting the livers and the sauce was missing a certain earthiness that we loved so much in Italy. I'll be making it again and including the livers and hopefully it will be just like we remember.

Pumpkin Waffles with Apple Cider Syrup

This was awesome. I couldn't make them fast enough to keep my kids happy. My 5 year old said they were the best food he's ever had. The syrup is very powerful so you only have to use a little bit which helps cut out a lot of sugar we normally have on waffle mornings. The kids asked if we could have this every morning.

Blue Cranberry Sauce

I just made this for Thanksgiving tomorrow. My very picky 6 and 8 year olds tried it and loved it. I did increase the sugar and used frozen blueberries. I;m sure it will only get better after it sits.

Homemade Root Beer

We made this first for my son's Cub scout pack meeting. The kids thought it was great and the parents kept sneaking glasses of it too. Since the first time we made it it's now requested at all my kids birthday parties. We found the rootbeer extract at a local homebrewing supply store.

Chemical Apple Pie (No Apple Apple Pie)

My kids loved this. We made it for my husband. The kids nicknamed it Tricky Pie. They loved tricking Daddy to eat apple-less apple pie. DH loves apple pie and had no clue there was no apple in it. The kids want to make it when Grandma comes to visit. It's a fun novelty pie.

Grilled Bacon Jalapeno Wraps

We love this one. To save a little time I frequently stuff the peppers with cream cheese then just lie a piece of bacon on the top then bake in the oven. They are SOOOOO good.
