About this Cook
I'm a 20 y/o college student who loves to cook in my spare time. I LOVE to eat, so if I want good food, it's up to me to cook it because my mom isn't stepping a foot in our kitchen. I'll try any and all recipes, as long as I can get ahold of the proper ingredients.
My favorite things to cook
I like baking pastries and cookies, doing whatever I can with pasta, making icy fruit drinks, and generally trying to incorporate variety into my meals.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I'm originally from El Salvador, so cooking any of our traditional meals is a blast for me. My mom's the one that teaches me how to cook them. NOBODY makes better pupusas than she does. Believe me, I've tried many.
My cooking triumphs
I'd have to say my biggest triumph is the first time I baked something. I baked biscuits, and, to my surprise, they turned out perfectly well. In a way, it opened my eyes to endless culinary possibilities.
My cooking tragedies
I've had so many, I don't know where to start! Most of my tragedies center around leaving out/substituting ingredients, forgetting something's cooking or baking, or missing the proper equipment. I also had a faulty oven for a while, which drove me insane because everything I baked came out wrong. Thankfully, I now have a functioning oven.

Grandma's Oatmeal Cookies
I made these cookies a few days ago, and followed the recipe exactly, except I used traditional oats instead of instant, and added about 6 teaspoons of honey for the heck of it. They smelled great while cooking, but the final result was more like oatmeal bread than cookies. I can understand why other users said they came out "cakey". My family told me to cut back on the flour next time and to add more raisins, so I'll probably use half the amount of flour and double the raisins. Overall, it's a good basic recipe.

Bridal Shower Cake
Good, basic cake recipe. It turns out perfectly well if you follow the recipe as is. The important thing to remember is that the flour must be measured after being sifted. If not, you'll end up including too much flour. The only thing I didn't like is that the flavor could be better. At the moment, it's merely satisfactory.
